In the 1930 census, he is 37 and lives with his widowed mother live Detroit. He works in an auto factory. He is a veteran of the World War. In the 1940 census, he is a 47 year-old divorced man living with his mother, Nellie M Mullen, in Los Angeles. He has a job and was a gardener for a private house.
