  Notes	He and Esther lived in Minneapolis in 1986 and at least through 2002. According to the 1956 Minneapolis city directory, he was an examiner for the state. He and Esther lived at 2912 42nd Avenue S. Flaten, Leo G. age 97, of Minneapolis died Friday, August 24, 2018. He was born at the family farm on Lake Elizabeth in Atwater, MN on March 9, 1921 and spent his early childhood years in Willmar and Atwater, MN. During WWII he served in the Army of the United States from August 26, 1942 through December 1, 1946 spending 2 1/2 years in England and France. Following discharge, he attended Macalester College for two years before transferring to the University of Minnesota where he received his B.S. degree in Economics in March, 1949. He was employed for 36 years by the Commerce Department of the State of Minnesota, completing his career in the position of Chief Examiner. He was an active member of Bethlehem Baptist Church since 1950. He enjoyed reading, especially history books and researching family genealogy with his niece, Jane. He lived in his home until the time of his death. He passed into eternity peacefully in the Emergency Room of Fairview Southdale Hospital surrounded by his family. Leo is survived by his daughter, Janet (Thomas) Sass, son, David Flaten and grandchildren, Jonathan (Emily) Sass, Laura Sass and Christina (Ethan) Ongstad and other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 720 13th Avenue South in Minneapolis Thursday, August 30th at 10:30 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. Preceded in death by wife, Esther; parents Balder and A. Dorothy Flaten, brothers, William, Bernard, Calvin, Elroy, Raymond, Edmund, Nord, Gerald; sisters, Helen, Ann and Pearl.
