  Notes	St. Olaf, ‘38. Her obit said that she was a trustee of St. Olaf College for 29 years. There is a scholarship fund in her name at St. Olaf. She received an M.A. from the University of Iowa in 1940. She was part of either the administration or the faculty of Colorado Women’s College in Denver in 1942. In 1956, she was Assistant Director of the Educational Division, Institute of Life Insurance, in New York. She was named Director in 1972 and was referred to as Dr. Helen M. Thal in the announcement of that promotion. In 1965, she was awarded as a distinguished alum of St. Olaf College. She was Dr. Helen M. Thal of New York City at the time of her father’s death. Her obit said that “she was a PEO.” This probably means that she was a member of the “Philanthropic Educational Organization”, an organization of “women helping women reach for the stars.”
