- Leona "Jean" Bergum, 80, of Viroqua, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009.
Jean was born to Leonard and Iva (Cole) Skrede on Feb. 11, 1929, in Vernon County. She was united in marriage to Alf "Joe" Bergum on Aug. 23, 1947, and later divorced in 1983. Jean loved to cook, dance, sing, and play cards. She managed the VFW kitchen for many years and cared for adults with disabilities until retirement. Jean served as a member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary and the Rachael Circle at the Bad Axe Lutheran Church. She had many friends and was well known for her quick witted sense of humor. There is a special place in our hearts that only you can fill. We will miss you dearly.
Jean is survived by her children: Deborah (Gerald) Wurl of Janesville, Cynthia (Gerald) Amundson of Janesville, and Lori Krause of La Farge; her grandchildren: Robert (Pam) Oliver of Janesville, Shannon Oliver of Viola, Shelly (Patrick) Anderson of Janesville, Danielle Amundson of Janesville, and Andrea (Nicholas) Gilberts of Prairie du Chein; sisters: Muriel Halverson of Viroqua, Connie Nundahl of Janesville, and Jan (Marlen) Halverson of Soldiers Grove.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Leonard Skrede Jr. and Kenneth Skrede; brothers-in-law, Gary Olson, LaVerne Halverson, and Kenneth Nundahl; and son-in-law, Kent Krause.
