- Richard Walter Davidson, according to his birth certificate, was born to Louis J. Davidson, 27, a machinist born in Hibbing, and Florence Olson, 26, born in Des Moines. His birth certificate was amended on June 19, 1962, from “Baby Boy.” He was legitimate and was the first child born to the mother.

Richard Walter Davidson, 84, Detroit Lakes, died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, in St. Mary's Regional Health Care Center, Detroit Lakes.
Mr. Davidson was born Jan. 21, 1918, in Minneapolis, where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1936. He married Ruth Goddard in Minneapolis. From 1942-1945 he served in the U.S. Army. Following his military service he lived in Marathon, Fla., where he was a captain for the Sheriff's Department for 25 years, and served as President Harry Truman's personal bodyguard during that time. His wife, Ruth, preceded him in death.
In August 1985 he married Lucille Johnson in Thief River Falls, Minn. They lived in Thief River Falls for a short time before moving to Munson Lake near Detroit Lakes. They recently moved into Detroit Lakes.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Sheryl A. Davidson, Deland, FL; three stepsons, Barry (Lynette) Johnson, Detroit Lakes, Lee Austin, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Ward (Cindy) Johnson, Miami; two stepdaughters, Bonnie (Don) Magner, Newfolden, Minn., Daryll Jean Caporaso, Naples, Fla.; a half brother, Robert (Chris) Christy, Port Charlotte, Fla.; seven step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation: One hour before the funeral in the hall.
Funeral: Saturday at 2 in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Detroit Lakes.
