  Notes	Born Emma Hicks. Her mother married Herman Sams in 1917. At the time of the census in April of 1940 she is still Emma Sams living with her mother and step-father in Duluth. She must have married Gustaf some time between April 15th and October 16th of 1940. There is nothing in MOMS for such a marriage. One of Emma’s cousins, brattland1 on Ancestry, says that they were married 16 Sep 1940 in Duluth. Her obit said that she had lived in the Duluth area since 1923.
