Cecil M. Johnson, 87, Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead, died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, in the nursing home. Mr. Johnson was born Nov. 24, 1918, in Minot, N.D., where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1935. In 1940, he earned an education degree from Minot State University. From 1940 to 1941, he taught high school in Zahl, N.D. From 1941 to 1943, he worked for Lockheed Aircraft, Los Angeles. On Dec. 24, 1941, he married Eleanor Granstrom in Appam, N.D. He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from 1943 to 1946. He graduated from Luther Seminary, St. Paul. From 1949 to 1956, he served at a four-point parish in Starkweather, N.D. He then served at a two-point parish in Pelican Rapids, Minn., until 1969. He received an honorary doctorate from Concordia College in 1969. From 1969 to 1981, he served as district president (bishop) of the northern Minnesota district of the American Lutheran Church. He worked for Oak Grove (Minn.) Lutheran High School from 1981 until his retirement in 1983. She died in 2004. He is survived by a son, The Rev. Timothy (Susan), Anoka, Minn.; two daughters, Kathryn Benson, Moorhead, Sita (Norman) Johnson, Richfield, Minn.; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation: Monday from 5 to 7 in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, and Tuesday from 10 to 11 in Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead. Funeral: Tuesday at 11 in the church.
