Called Andrew Tonsager in the 1885 state census. At that time he was living with his parents in New Market Twp.
Married to Anna in the 1895 state census. He had been in Minnesota for 26 years and he was 38 years old.
Andrew was a widower in the 1920 census.
Andrew was living with his daughter Mary (Markuson) and her family in the 1930 census.
His obituary: “The funeral of Andrew Tonsager was held Tuesday afternoon, November 28, 1939 from Christiania Free Church, Eureka, with Rev J. P. Langsjoen officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. The pastor was assisted by Rev. A. E. Windahl of Webster, who delivered the address by request. At the house, Mrs A. E. Windahl and Mrs Arthur Frederickson sang duets, accompanied by Miss Evelyn Knutsen. At the church, Rev and Mrs A. E. Windahl sang duets. Andrew Gilbert Tonsager was born in Eidswold, Norway, January 16, 1856, and died at the home of his son William, at Elko, Minnesota, November 24, 1939, at the age of 83 years, 10 months and 8 days. He came to America in 1868 and settled in New Market township. On October 28, 1891, he was united in marriage to Anna Bertine Quisel, who preceded him in death on October 7, 1910. To this union six children were born, namely, Mrs Chris Markison, who died April 17, 1936; Gustof, who died in infancy; Guy of Elko; Martin of New Market; William of Elko; Mrs Amelia Way, also of Elko. He is survived by twelve grandchildren. After the death of his beloved helpmate, Mr Tonsager lived with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr and Mrs Chris Markison on the old home place in New Market township. A year ago, he went to live with his son, William at Elko where he departed this life. He loved the farm and planned to go back soon but illness and death interfered. Mr Tonsager was a man of noble character and had a host of friends as was evidenced by the large crowd at the sad rites, Tuesday. 01-16-1856/11-24-1939”
