  Notes	Eda B Smith first appears in the Fort Dodge, Iowa, city directories in 1913 as the wife of John W Smith. In the 1915 Iowa state census, she was Eda B Smith of 156 North 5th Street in Fort Dodge. She had been born in Minnesota to parents born in Germany and she was Lutheran. She was married, was able to read and write, and had been in Iowa for 4 years. She had had 7 years of education. In the 1920 federal census, she and her husband lived in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was Eda Smith, age 32, born in Minnesota. Her husband was John W Smith, age 30, a grocery truck driver. In the 1925 Iowa state census, she and her husband J. W. Smith lived at 2104 7th Avenue South. She was 37, he was 35. He had lived all of his life in Iowa, she had been there for 14 years. Eda owned their home, worth $2500, with a remaining mortgage of $1500. In the extended information, Eda identified her father as August Wendt, b. ca 1864, and her mother as Anna Schuman, b. ca 1860, both born in Germany. In the 1930 census, the couple still lives at 2104 7th Avenue in Fort Dodge. John W is still a wholesale grocery truck driver. John was 23 years old when he first married which would suggest that Eda was his first wife and that they had married in about 1912. John and Eda owned the home that they lived in and it was worth $2500. They did not have a radio in their house. In the 1940 census, Eda Smith, age 52 and born in Minnesota, lived in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was listed as married but the entry was ambiguous. She lived alone in a rented room at 1015½ South 15th Street. She had a 7th grade education. In Fort Dodge in the late 1940s, she was a member of the Mondette Club, a women’s club and bridge club. She, as Eda B Smith, the wife of John W Smith last appears in the 1959 Fort Dodge city directory. The couple lived at 604 7th Avenue North. The Smiths appear in the Fort Dodge directories between 1913 and 1938, disappear during the ‘40s, and reappear in the Fort Dodge directory in 1955.
