Notes |
- She completed the Teachers’ Training Course at Fergus Falls High School in May of 1915.
She was still at home in Fergus Falls at the time of the 1920 census.
She was Mrs. Anton Haugen of Portland, Oregon at the time of her mother’s death.
In the 1930 census, she and her husband and two sons lived at 935 East 35th Street in Portland, Oregon, in a house that they owned and that was worth $5500. They had a radio. Anton was a carpenter for “residences” and had come to the U.S. in 1904.
Mabel would have been the first of her siblings to move to Portland.
As Mabel Oline Haugen, her obit was in the March 18, 1992, edition of The Oregonian:
A funeral for Mabel Oline Haugen, a Southeast Portland resident, will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Central Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Lincoln Memorial Park.
She died of causes related to age Sunday in her home. Mrs. Haugen was 95.
She was born June 2, 1896, in Fergus Falls, Minn., where she was raised and educated. After receiving her teacher's training in Valley City, N.D., she taught in Astoria as a young woman.
A longtime resident of the Portland area, Mrs. Haugen had been a substitute teacher for a number of years. She was an active member of Central Lutheran Church for many years. Her husband, Anton Haugen, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her sons, Jim of Vancouver, Wash., Anton Jr. of Seaside and Ronald of Hesperia, Calif.; sister, Margaret Ellingboe of Phoenix, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
