In the 1930 census, Olaf and family were living in New Market Twp next door to his brother Hans. Living with Olaf’s family was a 35 year-old servant, Anna Matson. Olaf’s father is indicated as having been born in Sweden.
In the 1940 census, Mabel and Selma are no longer living at home.

NORTHFIELD--Funeral services for Olaf Bergstrom, who passed away Friday, November 13, following a short illness, were held Thursday, November 19, at the Solor Church in Webster. the Rev. R. S. Chellman of Minneapolis officiated at 2:00 p.m. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery. Pallbearers were Lars Holden, Fred Frederickson, Eddy Peterson, Carl Miller, Axel Frederickson and Carl Anderson. Olaf Bergstrom was born March 21, 1889 in the Webster community, son of Ole and Betsy Nelson Bergstrom. He attended the rural schools and engaged in farming in the Webster community. On October 27, 1915, he was married to Anna Iverson of Webster. Following their marriage they lived for four years in Little Chicago and then made their home in Elko. For many years Mr. Bergstrom was known in the neighborhood for his skill with sick animals. While he was on a mission of Mercy to a New Market farm he was stricken with a heart attack from which he failed to recover. Mr. Bergstrom is survived by his widow, three daughters, Mrs. Hubert Ripple (Mabel) of Northfield; Selma Bergstrom of Omaha, Nebr., and Mrs. Glen Stoefer (Kathleen) of Faribault; four sons, Alvin, of Yakima, Wash., Donald of Minneapolis, Edwin who is in the armed forces in Korea, and Leonard at home. There are also eight grandchildren; five brothers and sisters living including, Mrs. Adolph Davidson (Inga); Hans and Joseph Bergstrom of Elko; John Bergstrom of Minneaplis and Mrs. Richard Aronson (Sophia) of Lakeville. One daughter preceded him in death.
