    • Donald Eugene Johnson, Born December 17, 1934 in Roseau, Minnesota, passed away on the afternoon of June 23, 2012. The son of Eugene and Inga Johnson, he started college but soon joined the Marine Corps and found himself 'at home.' Don served from 1952 until 1955 when he received an honorable discharge as a Sergeant in the Korean War as well as a Good Conduct medal, a National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and a United Nations Service Medal.

      After Don returned home, he soon met JoAnn and on November 17, 1956, Don and JoAnn were married. Don worked for Pacific Bell from 1955-1959 as a communications technician. In 1957 Don and JoAnn started a family with the birth of Cheryl, followed by Gary two years later. Don began his 30+ year law enforcement career as a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy from 1959 through 1962. In 1962 Don achieved his ultimate goal of joining the California Highway Patrol and spent the next 27 years with the CHP working in East Los Angeles area as a Motor Officer (motorcycle) from 1962-1976, and as a Vehicle Theft Investigator from 1976-1989. Don retired from the CHP in 1989 and pursued a career as a Licensed Private Investigator.

      Don very much enjoyed his golf game. In November 2002, Don scored a "Hole-In-One" on the sixth hole at the Fullerton Golf Course. Don found a 'second home' in 1981 as a member of the Whittier Elks Lodge#1258 and remained an active member up to his final days. Don and His wife JoAnn made many long-lasting friendships and companions with the Whittier Elks where Don served as Secretary and a Trustee for a time. Don was also a member of the American Legion & V.F.W.

      Don "D.E." Johnson is survived by his wife JoAnn, his two children: Cheryl Edwards (Andy) and Gary Johnson (Lenore) and seven grandchildren: Josh (Ashley), Becky, Shannon and Kelly Edwards, Trevor, Spencer and Oliver Johnson. Don's Brothers and Sisters: Richard Johnson, Patricia Benson, Barb Nelson & Brian Johnson.

      Don "D.E." Johnson is much loved by his family and friends and will be missed dearly. A memorial service will be held at Rose Hills Memorial Park and Mortuary Lakeview Chapel (Gate 10) on Saturday, June 30th at 11 a.m., followed by a graveside procession to the "Guadalupe Terrace", Rose Hills Memorial Park (Main Gate #1). A reception will follow the graveside services at the Whittier Elks Lodge, 13620 East Whittier Blvd, Whittier CA (562) 696-7117.
