Marilyn Spear, age 65 of Portland, passed away peacefully at 6:04 p.m. June 4, 2016, following a valiant two-year battle with cancer.
Born Marilyn Sally Carter on May 22, 1951, to Russell E. and Margaret Carter, Marilyn married Tony Spear on October 4, 1975. She attended Holy Family grade school, West Linn High School and graduated from Oregon State University in 1973. Marilyn volunteered with the March of Dimes for over 40 years, earning the Energizer Bunny award as their longest continuous volunteer. She served as Girl Scout troop leader, cheerleading advisor and second mom to many.
Marilyn is survived by her parents, Russell and Margaret Carter; husband, Tony; daughters, Emily (Aaron) and Kelsey (Tyler); grandchildren, Carter, Colby, Jackson and Brooklyn; brother, Ron (Pam); and sister, Wanda (George). A celebration of Marilyn’s life will be held Thursday, July 7, 2016. Marilyn was truly an angel here on Earth, her spirit shining brightly on all who knew her. Shine on, Marilyn
