Notes |
- His birth certificate shows him as Albin Ronald. His name was changed to Ronald Albin on March 9, 1982. He was
his parents’ first child.
The August 7, 1944, edition of the Brainerd newspaper noted that Ron and David were visiting relatives in Park Ridge, Ill.
Ron graduated from Aitkin High School in 1947 and the University of Minnesota in 1951. His degree at the U was a B.B.A., Sales and Merchandising.
In the 1950 census, he is a student at the U of M in Minneapolis. He lives in a dormitory at 4th Street, S.E.
He served in the Minnesota House from 1961 through 1970, elected five times, representing Wadena County (and, later, Todd). He was a Republican. During his time in the legislature, he served as chairman of the Commerce Committee, the Motor Vehicles Committee, and, last of all, the Financial Institutions and Securities Committee.
Ron received the Maurice L Rothschild Fund Scholarship ($250) for his senior year at the U.
He graduated with a Bachelors in Business Administration from the U of Minn in 1951 where he was a member of the Delta Sigma Pi fraternity.
Ron was already an automobile dealer in Wadena by March of 1952.
According to David: “Ron graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1951 and went into a business partnership in Wadena, selling Cadillacs and Oldsmobiles. The business prospered and he was a State Representative from 1959 to 1969. In 1969 he sold his share of the business and went to work as a stockbroker for Piper Jaffray. He remained with Piper Jaffray for more than twenty years and then worked at other brokerage houses in the Twin Cities.”
Ron notes in a life story that he was fifteen years old before the house he and his family lived in had electricity or running water or a telephone.
Served as an MP at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, in the 1950s. An article in the Brainerd newspaper’s November 25, 1952, edition notes that he was one of thirteen Crow Wing County men in the November induction. He was living in Wadena at the time.
Ronald Albin Everson, longtime resident of North Oaks, died November 21, 2024, at the age of 94.
Ron was born July 8, 1930, in Brainerd, Minnesota, to Albin and Naomi Everson. He graduated from Aitkin High School in 1947. That same year he enrolled at the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1951 with a BBA. He was a member of Delta Sigma Pi and gave his fraternity much credit for the positive outcomes he experienced. He remained connected to his Delta Sig Brothers throughout his life.
Shortly after college, he formed a business partnership to buy a Cadillac and Oldsmobile dealership in Wadena, Minnesota. In November 1952, Ron was drafted and served two years in the U.S. Army at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina.
Not long after his return to civilian life, he was urged to run for election to the Minnesota House of Representatives. His ten years as a legislator were noteworthy for his contributions to good government, serving on the Rules and Tax Committee and as Chairman of the Banking Committee. Active in the Republican Party, Ron was a staunch supporter of conservative government all his life.
In 1969 Ron sold his share of the auto dealership to his partner and became a full time stockbroker with Piper, Jaffray & Hopwood in Minneapolis. He had a number of key sales and management positions as well as serving in their St. Paul and Minneapolis offices.
Ron maintained a strong interest in boating on the St. Croix, skiing in Colorado and fishing in Canada. He was a lifetime member of the American Swedish Institute where he served as a Director. He was a member of Svenska Sallskapet, a Swedish men's club, and his church, Christ Presbyterian Church, until his death.
He is survived by his children Robbin, Scott, Nancy, Paul, and Rebecca and his grandchildren Connor and Bruno. He was preceded in death by his wife Marcia and his daughter Sharon.
A memorial service will be held January 6, 2025, at 1:00pm at Christ Presbyterian Church.
Memorials may be made to Union Gospel Mission in St. Paul.
