Adeline Rodella Ellingboe was born to Richard and Agnes Jossart in Cashel Township, Swift County, on June 20, 1928, the oldest of five children. Since her father rented farmland, they often moved so Adeline attended several country schools before graduating from Benson High School in 1947. She and her siblings were involved in helping with the field work and doing chores. After graduation, Adeline worked at Red Owl in Benson and then moved to Big Bend and worked at the grocery store there.
