Vernon E. Kilde died November 2, 2010, in San Diego California where he had lived from 2004.
Vernon was born June 26, 1930 as the oldest of three children to Edna and Sam Kilde from Fergus Falls, Minnesota.
In 1946 he entered the National Guard in Fergus Falls and after high school in 1948 he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. Sergeant Vernon Kilde and his company were sent to South Korea to fight communism against China and North Korea. In one of the bloodiest battles in history at Choisen Reservoir Sergeant Kilde was badly wounded and received the Purple Heart. Vernon was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps in 1950.
In 1951 Vernon married Florence Wiegand and later divorced in 1971. They had two children Calette (Al) Frisinger and Scott (Kelly) Kilde.
He worked 20 years as a Code Enforcement Officer in Fargo North Dakota where he retired in 1998.
In 1976 he married Else Berit Andresen from Norway, and then received three stepsons. Bjorn, Jim and Tom, whom he adopted.
