7769 Harriet “Leona” Madison, beloved mother and grandmother, age 94, of Willmar, died Tuesday, April 26, 2017, at Bethesda Grand in Willmar.

Leona was born on December 2, 1922, in Swift County, Minnesota, the daughter of Edward and Minnie (Skansberg) Quale. She graduated from Murdock High School and received her teaching certificate from St. Cloud Teachers College. She taught school in Kandiyohi County for 5 years. She was united in marriage to Ray Madison on April 25, 1947, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. The couple lived in Chicago and Fargo before returning to Willmar in 1948. Leona worked as a secretary for the Willmar Junior High School, C.M. Klienhuizen Dentistry in Willmar and worked as a secretary/bookkeeper for the Christian Nursing Home in Willmar for 18 years. Ray passed away on June 22, 2012.

Leona was baptized and confirmed in the Christian Faith. She was an active member at Calvary Lutheran Church serving for many years as a Sunday School Teacher, and with Ladies Aid and Circle.

She is survived by her daughter, Lori Madison-Smith (and special friend Charles Drewry); grandson, Stephen (and Melissa) Smith; three great-grandsons: Christian, Evan, and David; sisters-in-law Guida Quale and Nadine Carlson;; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Ray, she was preceded in death by five brothers (two in infancy).

7770 Harriet Geraldene Berge, 86, of Sykesville, died Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House in Westminster.

Born July 30, 1925, in Valders, Wis., she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Aletta Alfsted. She was the wife of Thomas W. Berge, her husband of 62 years.

She had been a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service in Valders until 1954. After raising her family, she went to work in cafeterias for the Prince George's County Board of Education. She and her husband moved to Fairhaven Retirement Community several years ago. She enjoyed gardening and especially spending time with her family.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are son and daughter-in-law Steven and Kathi Berge, of Columbia; daughter and son-in-law Susan and Timothy Watkins, of Westminster; grandchildren Kelley, Patrick and Alexandra Berge, and Megan, Timothy Jr. and Brian Watkins; great-grandchildren Riley and Madison Berge; and other family members Tom Christel, of Valders, and Alice Mae Waniger, of St. Nazianz, Wis.

She was predeceased by family members Olga Fossum, and Violet, Louis and Gladys Christel.
