In the 1950 census, Thomas was a lodger with the Kalstadt family in McPherson, Kansas. He is employed making ice cream at a dairy.
At the time of his father’s death, Tom was “in armed services at Fort Eustis, VA.”
Tom and Gwenn lived in McPherson, Kansas, for many years where they ran a chicken and ice factory.
In the 1954 McPherson, Kansas, city directory, Thomas and Gwynn live at 831 N Barber. Thomas is plant manager for Mid-Kansas Hatchery and Produce.
In the 1962 McPherson city directory, Thomas is a meat cutter for Mid-Kansas Produce. He and Gwynn and their four children live at 819 E Euclid. The directory lists their children as Rick, 10, Kristi, 7, Kimberly, 5, and Craig, 4.

Thomas and Gwendolyn Ekum, Hutchinson, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a trip to Branson, Mo., this month. They will celebrate with their family in December.
Ekum and the former Gwendolyn Roth were married Nov. 12, 1950, in McPherson. He is retired from Western Ice and Poultry, McPherson, and United States Department of Agriculture - Food Safety Inspection Service, Springdale, Ark. She is retired from Western Ice and Poultry, McPherson.
Thomas R. “Tom” Ekum, 85, of Hutchinson, Kan., died Oct. 26, 2015, at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was born Jan. 8, 1930, in Vernon County, Wis., to Albert and Bertha (Oren) Ekum.
He graduated from Viroqua High School, Viroqua, Wis., in 1948. Tom was a corporal in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953. He was a past commander of the McPherson American Legion Post 24, is a member of the Eagles and the Elks Lodge, and is a lifetime member of the VFW. Tom was owner and operator of Mid Kansas Produce and worked later as a federal poultry inspector in Arkansas. He was and a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church.
On Nov. 12, 1950, he married Gwendolyn Roth in McPherson, Kan. She died Feb. 1, 2006.
Survivors include children, Kristi Ekum, Dodge City, Kan., Kimberly Ekum-Anthony Harris (Michael Harris), Kansas City, Mo., Craig Ekum (Joleen), McPherson, Kan., Richard Ekum, Wichita, Kan.; sister, Dorothy Ekum McKittrick, Viola, Wis.; sister-in-law, Barbara Roth Unrein, Great Bend, Kan.; brother-in-law, Paul Roth, Tulsa, Okla.; grandchildren, Michelle Shelton, Eric Ekum, Jessica Anthony, Haley Cowan, Benjamin Anthony, Jay Harris, Kylie Koehn and Cody Ekum; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gwynn; parents; and six brothers and sisters.
Funeral service were held Friday, Oct. 30, 2015, at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Hutchinson, Kan., with Pastor Tim Carey officiating. Burial followed at McPherson City Cemetery, McPherson, Kan., with military honors conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard. | EKUM, Thomas Roy (I918)

In the 1960 Janesville city directory, Merlin lives with Kenneth and Constance at 1456 S Washington. Merlin is a teacher in Beloit and Kenneth is a machinist for Fairbanks-Morse in Beloit.

Merlin C. Nundahl, 76, of Beloit, WI, died Tuesday, July 21, 2009, in Mercy Hospital, Janesville, WI. He was born Sept. 12, 1932, in Vernon County, a son of Carl and Mearl Crook Nundahl. Merlin was a 1950 graduate of Viroqua High School and a 1954 graduate of the University of La Crosse receiving his bachelor’s degree in education. Merlin also received his masters in education from Rockford College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Merlin was employed as an elementary teacher and, then, became the principal for Burdge and Morgan Elementary Schools, retiring in 1989. He also worked for Beloit College for 6 years in the education department as a field director. Merlin was a member of the YMCA board, Kiwanis Club, Historical Society and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, where he taught Sunday school and helped out with the breakfast program. He started a center for children to be tutored and spent 4 summers building Camden playground in Janesville, WI. Merlin’s family was a big part of his life and they were all very important to him, as were his two cats, Ginger and Kitty.
Survivors include his brother and sisters: Donald (Janus) Nundahl of Richland Center, WI, Marlene Carrel of Janesville, Martha (Melvin) Brewer of Janesville, Norma Pierce of Onalaska, WI, and Judy Collins of Richland Center; a sister-in-law, Connie Nundahl; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Merlin will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Selmer, Kenneth and Ivan; one sister, Eileen Mikkelson; brothers-in-law, Lawrenze Mikkelson, Gene Collins, Jim DeLap; and sister-in-law, Geneva Nundahl.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 27, 2009, in OUR SAVIOR’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 749 Bluff Street, Beloit, WI, with Reverend Jennifer Jelinek officiating. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Sunday at the DALEY MURPHY WISCH & ASSOCIATES FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORIUM, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI. Funeral services will also be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at 1 p.m. in KICKAPOO UNITED LUTHERAN CHURCH, Soldiers Grove, WI, with Pastor Grant VanLishout officiating. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the CHURCH. Burial will be in Kicka-poo United Lutheran Church Cemetery with Military Honors.
