She was struck and killed by a car while crawling on her hands and knees across the northbound lanes of a freeway interchange. In the dark and with heavy fog, the oncoming car could not avoid hitting her. Investigators did not find a vehicle belonging to her in the area and are not sure how she got there.

Grace Nae Bergam died January 20, 2018 from complications of the flu, with her children and family by her side. Grace was born on November 13, 1963 in Eagle Pass, Texas and raised in Ontario, Oregon, graduating from Nyssa High School in 1981.
Grace had 4 children. Brian Crabb born in 1984-2005. Nigel Bergam was born in 1989. Brittany Bergam was born in 1991 and passed away at 1 day old. Grace married Brian Bergam in January 1993 and nine months later Brooke Bergam was born.
Grace was passionate about two things; her children and her country. Grace joined the National Guard in 1982 and initially served until 1988, when she focused on raising her family and working. She worked at Powell’s Office Supply, Bond Office Equipment, Walmart, Golden Valley Foods, States Fruit Stand, and Ontario Photocopy. Grace was friendly and outgoing and always made friends where she worked.
The attacks during 911 were a deciding factor for Grace to re-enlist with the Army National Guard on October 1, 2001. Grace was called upon to serve in her first tour in Iraq in 2004-2005, supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom III. In 2007 Grace moved to Boise to work full time for the National Guard at Gowen Field as a Logistics Administrative Clerk. Grace was called upon for a second tour in Iraq in 2010-2011. Grace returned to Gowen Field and served until retiring from the Idaho National Guard, as a Sergeant, on October 31st, 2017.
Grace was a loving, giving person. She never put anyone down. She always had something in her pocket to give away. If you needed anything, she found a way to get it for you. She always had a smile to give away.
Grace was preceded in death by a special grandmother, Alice Bergam and her two children; Brian Crabb and Brittany Bergam. Grace is survived by her mother; Mercedes Rivera Gomez, her sister; Dora Monzo, her three brothers; Jr. Gomez, Martin Gomez and Johnny Gomez, her two children; Nigel and Brooke Bergam, and her two grandsons; Damien Crabb and Reid Helms.
Grace will always be remembered by her many Aunts, Uncles and cousins. She will be forever in the hearts of her special friends; Tony Diehl (adopted father), Steve Wingert (her boyfriend) and Candy Reedy (BFF & partner in crime). Until we meet again and then we will pick back up right where we left off.Services will be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Ontario, Oregon on Saturday January 27th, 2018 at 11:00am. A military service will be conducted at Gowen Field, Boise, Idaho on February 9th, 2018 at 4:00pm. A celebration of life will be he held at a later date.
