Gold Star Mother.
Tulie Brekken passed away at the Zumbrota Community Hospital on Saturday, Aug. 22, at the age of 79. The daughter of William and Jessie Read, she was born at Brodhead, Wisc. on Aug. 24, 1890. She was united in marriage to Austin Brekken on Dec. 14, 1910 at the Methodist Church in Monticello. They established their home on a farm at Dennison, where they resided for 46 years. They then retired to Northfield, where they lived until 1968 when they became residents of the Kenyon Sunset Home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Austin, in 1968; one son, Evan; two grandsons, Bruce Sunde and Larry Brekken; four brothers and one sister. She is survived by five sons Austin, Jr., of Dennison; Lyle of Cannon Falls; Levi of Portland Ore.; Wilfred and Harvey of Northfield; four daughters, Caroline (Mrs. Vernon Reko) and Adeline (Mrs. Harold Lenway) both of Kenyon; Bertha (Mrs. Sanford Sunde) of Faribault and Avis of Minneapolis; 23 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, two brothers; Oscar and Herb Read of New Effington, S.D. and one sister, Mrs. Wade Johnson of Northfield. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, at the Vang Lutheran Church with the Rev. Terrence E. Fretheim officating. Mrs. Terrence Fretheim rendered two vocal selections, accompanied by Mrs. Cyrus Midge, the church organist. Dennis Brekken, Richard Lenway, Robert Reko, David Lenway, Robert Welch and LeRoy Brekken served as pallbearers. Interment took place at the Vang cemetery. | READ, Tulie (I32853)
