7353 Glenn Norman Thompson, a lifelong resident of Clarissa, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on February 17, 1936, in Eagle Valley Township to Martha (Bartelt) and Anton Thompson, Glenn's life was characterized by hard work, dedication to his family and faith, and a deep connection to his community.

Glenn was raised in the Bethel Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed, laying the foundation for a lifelong commitment to his faith. His early years were marked by diverse experiences, from logging in the forests of northern Minnesota to various occupations in the Twin Cities area, and ultimately returning to his roots on the family farm. These formative years instilled in him a strong work ethic and a resourceful spirit.

In 1959, a chance encounter at the Clarissa Ballroom brought a special joy into Glenn's life when he met Patsy McDonald. Their connection deepened, and they were married on September 23, 1961, at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Clarissa. Together, they embarked on a shared journey, taking over the family farm in 1964 and building a life centered around family and community. For over a decade, Glenn diligently hauled milk cans for the Clarissa Creamery, all while managing the demanding responsibilities of a dairy farm, tending to crops, and navigating the challenges of fieldwork.

Beyond the demands of farming, Glenn found pleasure in the simple act of nurturing life through his annual vegetable garden, always looking forward to the bounty of the harvest. He also held a special fondness for his cows and the loyal companionship of his dogs. His faith remained a constant throughout his life, as he actively participated in St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, serving as an elder and contributing his time on various boards and committees.

Once the fieldwork was done, summers were a time for creating lasting memories through camping and fishing trips with friends and family, a tradition that fostered a love for the outdoors in many of his grandchildren. Glenn also demonstrated his commitment to his community through his involvement with the American Dairy Association and the Germania Town Board.

Glenn and Patsy raised six children: Bradley Thompson of Clarissa, Minnesota; Laurie (Joe) Jensen of Buffalo, Minnesota; Scott Thompson (friend Terry) of Clarissa, Minnesota; and Randy Thompson of Browerville, Minnesota. He was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Paige Jensen, Abby Thompson (fiancé Jordan Salber), Haiden Thompson, Jonah Hidalgo, and Jezie Hidalgo. His family circle expanded with the arrival of two great-grandchildren, Wrenley and Dutton Salber.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Martha and Anton Thompson; his brothers, Earl, Alvon, and an infant brother; and his beloved son, David, and daughter, Julie.

Glenn will be remembered as a hardworking, kind-hearted man who cherished his family, his faith, and the land. His contributions to his community and the love he shared will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
