Funeral services were held Thursday, July 9, at 2 p.m. at the Vang Lutheran Church for Mrs. Caroline Marie Flom, 69, who died at the Northfield City Hospital on Monday, July 9. The Rev. B. J. Blikstad officiated. Mrs. Blikstad was the vocalist, singing "Beyond The Sunset" and "Nearer Still Nearer". Mrs. Cyrus Midje was the organist. The pallbearers were Obert Eggum, Clarence Eggum, Andrew Flom, Lawrence Flom, Orlean Durdahl and Donald Flom. Interment was in the Vang Cemetery. Caroline Marie Flom, the daughter of Peder and Carrie Tufte Eggum, was born in this community March 8, 1890. She was baptized, confirmed and married in the Vang Lutheran Church and was a lifelong member of the Vang congregation. On December 15, 1910, she was united in marriage to Michael N. Flom, who preceded her in death May 3, 1950. She is survived by one daughter, Marcia (Mrs. Herman Braaten) of rural Dennison, and three grandchildren. There are also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, August 19, for Dr. Nils Flaten, a member of the faculty of St. Olaf college for 47 years who died at his home, 1401 Forest Avenue, Northfield, at 4 o'clock Sunday morning, August 17. The services were held in St. John's Lutheran church with the pastor, the Rev. Arnold Nelson, officiating. During the service Mrs. Gertrude Boe Overby sang "I Know A Sleep in Jesus Name" and "I'm But A Stranger Here, Heaven Is My Home." Many greetings and memorial gifts were given at the services. Interment was in Oaklawn cemetery with Paul Bollenbacher, E. C. Jacobson, Clarence Carlson, Alf Houkom, Hjalmar Lokensgard and Rolf Solum as pallbearers.
Nils Flaten was born in Valdres, Norway, March 18, 1867, the son of Ole and Maren (Wangensten) Flaten. With his parents he came to the United States when he was a year old. They settled in the Dennison community, Goodhue County, where his father was a teacher. He was educated in the local public schools and at the St. Olaf School and the Carleton Academy. Then he attended the University of Minnesota, receiving the Bachelor of Arts degree there in 1893, the Master of Arts degree in 1896 and the Doctor of Philosphy degree in 1900. He also studied at the Universities of Grenoble in France and Barcelona in Spain. Dr. Flaten taught at the Grand Forks College 1893-94 and at the United Church seminary in St. Paul from 1894 to 1900. He joined the faculty of St. Olaf College in 1900 as Professor of Latin and in 1916 was made professor of Romance Languages. He was active as a teacher until November 1946 when illness confined him to his home. During World War I in 1918-19 Dr. Flaten served with the Y.M.C.A. in Italy. | FLATEN, Nils (I32873)

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 23, at 2 p.m. at the Dennison Lutheran Church for Mrs. Thomas Haugen, 69, of Northfield. The Rev. Harlan F. Foss, pastor of the Dennison Lutheran Church, conducted the service. The soloist was Esther Boe, with Mrs. Harlan Foss accompanying. The pallbearers were Carl Underdahl, Oscar Solheim, Leonard Esterm, Edward Kunde, Fred Anderson and Alfred Skovbroten. Interment was in the Valley Grove Cemetery at Nerstrand.
Tilda Geneva, daughter of Iver and Gertrude Wangesness Holt, was born at Minot, N.D. on Nov. 30, 1892. She was baptized and confirmed in the First Lutheran Church in Minot. She was married to Thomas N. Haugen on Oct. 27, 1914. To this union eight children were born: Five daughters, Mrs. Elmer (Valdine) Engeseth, Mrs. Orlando (Meredith) Lien, Mrs. Elsworth (Hazel) Dammer, Mrs. Arvin (Norma) Iverson and Mrs. James (Lou Ann) Lervik and three sons, Russell, who was killed in World War II, Herbert and Donald. Her parents, five brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
Surviving are her husband, seven children, 17 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two brothers, Arthur of Seattle and Grant of Minot, N.D., and one sister, Hazel Holt of Williston, N.D.
The Haugens came to Dennison in 1924 and farmed in this area and later moved to Northfield. Mrs. Haugen was taken ill last week and taken from the Northfield Hospital to the University Hospitals where she passed away Friday, May 19. Mrs. Haugen was active in church and Ladies Aid work and was an honorary member of the Dennison Ladies Aid. She was presented with a lifelong pin by the local aid.å | HOLT, Tilda Geneva (I29336)

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at Bear Creek Lutheran Church rural Grand Meadow, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013 at the Hindt Funeral Home, 104 Grand Ave. E, Grand Meadow, MN. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Gordon Ellsworth Sween, age 88, of Grand Meadow, MN, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2013, at Grand Meadow Healthcare Center.Gordon was born on September 1, 1924, to Clifford and Evelyn (Skogstad) Sween in Racine Township. He grew up in rural Grand Meadow. Gordon was a member of Bear Creek Lutheran Church his entire life.
On August 14, 1955, Gordon married Betty Lou Meschke.
Throughout his life, Gordon worked as a farm laborer and at the Grand Meadow Locker. He eventually went to work for the grain elevator in Grand Meadow, until his retirement in 1986, after 27 years. Gordon was a member of the Grand Meadow Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He enjoyed camping with friends and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Betty of Grand Meadow, daughter, Crystal (Tom) Olson of Byron, MN, grandchildren, Sara and Eric Olson of Byron, MN, and his brother, Norman (Kitty) Sween of Grand Meadow.He was preceded in death by his parents. | SWEEN, Gordon Ellsworth (I11743)

Funeral servies were held at 2 p. m., Tuesday, May 24, at the Vang church, for Lawrence Lockrem, 18 year old son of Austin Lockrem, with Rev. L. A. Wogen officiating. Mrs. W. H. Ross of Stillwater sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "Thy Will be Done" with Mrs. Cyrus Midje at the organ. Pallbearers were: Lowell Estren, Donald Haugen, James Haugen, Peder Underdahl, Lyndon Lockrem and Ormenzo Brekken. Lawrence Christopher Lockrem was born December 8, 1931 in Warsaw township, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Austin Lockrem. He was a member of the Vang church and was confirmed in 1948. Surviving are two sisters, Miss Beatrice Lockrem of Minneapolis and Miss Gladys Lockrem of Northfield; two brothers, Austin Lockrem, Jr., of Northfield and Marvin at home. His father also survives. Attending the funeral from out-of-town were: Mrs. Margaret Bonhus, Mr. and Mrs. F. K. Smith, Mrs. Victor Olson and daughter, Marcia, of Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Naurice Husbyn and Arthur Estrem of Goodhue, Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Tullberg and son, Allen of Albert Lea and Mrs. W. H.
