7161 Funeral services for Gwen Pearson of Warroad will be held on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at 10 AM at Zion Lutheran Church in Warroad. Visitation will be on Monday from 5-7 PM with a 6:30 prayer services at Helgeson Funeral Home in Warroad. Interment will be at the Norland Cemetery in Salol.

Gwen Marie Pearson of Warroad passed away on August 12, 2010 at her home in Warroad at the age of 73.

Gwen was born on April 16, 1937 in Pinecreek, MN to Thelma (Nyhus) and Juel Ellenson. She attended grade school at SunnySide School Dist. 111 in Norland Township (where her mother taught) for four years and then in Salol. She graduated from Roseau High School in 1955.

She and Maynard Pearson were married at Moe Lutheran Church in Roseau on June 16, 1956.

In addition to being an exceptional mother and homemaker, Gwen worked as a deli manager for a period of years.

She enjoyed sewing, making quilts, scrap booking, collecting American Girl dolls and Precious Moments, fishing, gardening, playing scrabble, or any game with her family. Her best friend was Maynard, and her greatest joy in life was her time spent with family and friends. She will be remembered as a terrific cook, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a member of 4-H, Homemakers, Ladies Aid, and Auxiliaries.

She is survived by her husband, Maynard of Warroad; mother, Thelma of Warroad; and a sister, Susan Didier of Arlington, TX. Children, Vicki (Gary) Boekelheide of Warroad, Jeff (Paulette) of Salol, Jodi (Rod) Stomberg of Warroad, and Susi (Rod) Putney of Prior Lake, MN; 14 grandchildren, Jessica Watson, Chelsea Boekelheide, Kirsten Boekelheide, Jeremy Pearson, Amy (Joe) Kramer, Justin Pearson, Amanda Bolstad, Derek Stomberg, Brent Stomberg, Deserai Stomberg, Kayla Stomberg, Alicia Putney, Garrett Putney, Brenna Putney; 5 great-grandchildren, Chelsea Pearson, Jacob Pearson, Treyton Stomberg, Shelby Stomberg and Kian Stomberg.

She was preceded in death by her father, Juel; brother, Allen; sister, Karla Landin; and grandson, Beau Putney.

7162 Funeral services for Ida G. Thompson, 93, who died November 4, 1982 at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center, were held November 6 at the First Lutheran church, Northwood, with the Rev. Charles Bunk officiating.

Ida G. Johnson Thompson was born October 23, 1889 in Worth county, the daughter of Michael D. and Julia Aase Johnson. She was baptized and confirmed in the South Shell Rock Lutheran church at Northwood. After attending the St. Ansgar Seminary, she graduated as a registered nurse at Bethesda hospital, St. Paul, Minn. She joined the U.S. Army as a nurse and served in England, France and Germany during World War I.

On September 11, 1920 she was united in marriage with Orlando Thompson. She was a member of the First Lutheran church, Northwood, and an associated member of the First Lutheran church, St. Ansgar. She was also a member of the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, World War I Barracks of Worth County and the World War I Auxiliary.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Orlando; her parents; one sister, Mae (Johnson) Rustad; four brothers, Elmer, Winifred, John N. and Leland Johnson.

She is survived by her children, Harvey Thompson of Fairfield Bay, Ark.; Dean Thompson, St. Ansgar; Mrs. Howard (Marion) Bless of St. Ansgar and Mrs. Darold (Helen) Bless of Toeterville; five grandsons and eight granddaughters; five great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Esther Butler of Northwood and Mrs. Joyce Scott of Knoxville; many nieces and nephews.

Burial was in Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood.

7163 Funeral services for Mrs. Carrie Evenson, 85, of rural Nerstrand, were held Saturday at the Vang Lutheran Church with the Rev. Terence E. Fretheim officiating. Interment took place at the Vang Cemetery. Kenneth Flom, accompanied by Mrs. Cyrus Midje, sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Beautiful Savior". Pallbearers were Merlin Klahr, Arnold Maring, Norman Nelson, Henry Quammer, Tenus Rustad and Richard Underdahl.

She was born on a farm near Dennison on Aug. 31, 1886, the daughter of Hans and Soneva Prestegaard Halvorson. She was baptized by the late Rev. J. N. Kildahl and confirmed on Nov. 3, 1901, by the late Rev. A. Hauge at the Vang Lutheran Church, of which she has been a lifelong member.

On June 25, 1924, she married Edwin Evenson at the Evangelical Lutheran Church at Red Wing by the late Rev. Martin Norstad. They lived at Red Wing for one year before moving to their farm in Holden Township.

Mrs. Evenson, who passed away at the St. Lucas Convalescent and Geriatric Center in Faribault after a long illiness, is survived by her husband, two daughters; Mrs. Elroy (Doris) Henke of Kenyon, and Mrs. Calvin (Carol) Duncan of Minneapolis; three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, one sister, Mrs. Henry (Rose) Miller, and one sister who died in infancy.

7164 Funeral services for Nevada Dahl, 18, Horace, ND, formerly of Cooperstown, were held May 10, 1993, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cooperstown.

She died May 7, 1993, at St. Lukes Hospital in Fargo, ND, after a lengthy illness.

Nevada Dahl was born March 24, 1975, in Cooperstown, ND, the daughter of Dwight and Myrtle (Lockner) Dahl. She attended school in Cooperstown, Grand Forks, and presently, was a senior at West Fargo High School in West Fargo.

She is survived by her father, Dwight Dahl of West Fargo; her mother, Mrs. Mike (Myrtle) Anderson of Grand Forks; one brother, Brandon Dahl of Grand Forks; grandparents, Wayne Lockner and Douglas and June Dahl, all of Cooperstown; extended family, Erin Prindiville and family of Horace, ND; several aunts and uncles.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Shirley Lockner.

7165 Funeral services for Pamela, 3½ year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Nystuen (Betty Batson) of near Northfield were held Thursday afternoon, Dec. 4, first at the home and later at Bethel Lutheran church, Northfield, with Rev. Russell J. Quanbeck, pastor officiating. Pamela, died Sunday, Nov. 30, at 2:00 p.m., from a rare blood infection at Northfield hospital, after only 20 hours of serious illness. Mrs. Henry Evert sang, "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" at the home; she sang, "Jesus Loves Me", which was Pamela's favorite hymn and "A Christian's Goodnight" at the church. Pastor Quanbeck spoke on the test Mark 9: 30-37, pointing out that it is as little children, with their faith, that we enter the kingdom of heaven. Interment was in Oaklawn cemetery. Nortfield with four cousins as pallbearers: Merlyn Schonning, Ben, Gerald and David Nystuen. Pamela was a born February 8, 1949 at Northfield and baptized April 3, 1949 at Bethel Lutheran church by Rev. Quanbeck. She died November 30, 1952. Survivors are her parents, one sister, Rebecca Ann, 14 months; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Batson of Castle Rock; Mrs. Emma Nystuen of Northfield. NYSTUEN, Pamela Betty (I36527)
 
7166 Funeral services for Richard D. Litsheim were held at the Parker Funeral Home on Friday afternoon, Sept. 20, at 1:30 p.m. with Leonard Coffeen of St. Paul officiating. Pallbearers were James Hoffmaster, Robert Newcombe, Allan Forcelle, James Ebert, Fred Malecha, and Delmar Schafbuch, all of Faribault. Interment was in the National Cemetery at Fort Snelling. A military escort and veteran's graveside rites were provided at the cemetery by members of the veterans service organizations of Faribault. Included were the following: Commander of the military escort and firing squad was John F. Kenney; color bearers were Frank Miller and Everett Brendemeuhl and color guards were Ike Zuehlke and John Carver. The firing squad consisted of Art Shields, Robert Kern, Sylvester Fiebiger, Roy Winjum and Bert Murphy. Bulger was Kenneth Berndt, United States Navy. Relatives and friends attending the services from away were from Tucson, Ariz., Milwaukee, Wis., Menominie, Wis., St. Paul, Minneapolis, Kenyon, Nerstrand, Sebeka, Morristown, and Northfield. Richard Dean Litsheim, the son of Edward and Irene Hudak Litsheim, was born in Faribault on Feb. 13, 1933. As a child, he moved with the family to St. Paul, and there he attended the public schools and grew to young manhood. Following that, he enlisted in the United States Navy during the time of the Korean Conflict and served for a four year period. He also served for a number of years with the Naval Reserve. Following his discharge from military service, he returned to St. Paul, where for several years he was employed with a sheet metal firm. On June 2, 1956 he was united in marriage to Miss Carolyn Warmington at St. Paul. They made their home in Faribault where Mr. Litsheim was employed at McQuay's and later, at the Mercury Aircraft in Faribault. Following that, he had been employed with the Engineer's Specialty Company in Lakeville. Mr. Litsheim passed away at the Veterans Hospital in Minneapolis on Wednesday morning Sept. 18, following an illness of several years. He is survived by his widow, Carolyn; a daughter, Christian Ann of Faribault; his mother, Mrs. Melvin Oswald of Tucson, Arizona; a brother, Dewey Litsheim Jr. of El Cajon, Calif.; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Hudak of Sebeka, Min.; a number of uncles and aunts and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward A. Litsheim, in July of 1962. 7167 FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR ACCIDENT VICTIM

Aug. 3, 1954
The interment of Donna Mae Gernandt, age 15, of Morristown was in the Groveland cemetery Friday after noon July 30.
Donna, who was the granddaughter of Mrs. Lucy Lockrem of Dundas, was killed in an auto accident Tuesday morning as was her companion who was driving the car, Phyllis Weatherhead, also age 15, when the car struck loose gravel and overturned.

Donna, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gernandt, was born in Bridgewater township, June 17, 1939. The family lived in this vicinity for several years. Three years ago they moved to Morristown and Donna had completed her freshman year in the Morristown high school this year. Besides her parents, she leaves one brother, Francis, age 14; three sisters; Jo Ann, 12; Patty, 10, and Diane, 8.

Private services were held in the Gernandt home at noon Friday, and a two o'clock service was held in the Bethlehem Lutheran church, conducted by the Rev. Victor Marxhausen. Pallbearers were her four uncles; George and Leo Gernandt of Minneapolis; Louis Gernandt of Eau Claire, Wis., and Frank Gernandt of Lonsdale.

The accident occurred on a county road three miles north of Morristown. The car flipped end over end and landed upright. Phyllis Weatherhead was thrown from the car and died at the scene. Donna died at a Faribault hospital. She had been pinned under the wreckage. Patricia Weatherhead, age 10, was also thrown from the car but was injured and managed to get to a nearby farm for aid.

7168 Funeral services were conducted at Vang Lutheran church Wednesday, November 29, for Tosten E. Odegaard, 82 year old retired farmer of Holden township. The Rev. L. A. Wogen officiated. Mr. Odegaard is survived by his widow, the former Sissel Tasa, to whom he was married on June 26, 1902. There are five children also surviving, Esther, Ida and Edwin at home; Mrs. Tosten Musgjerd (Alma), and Thorphin of Holden township. A sister, Mrs. Ingeborg Munson of Kenyon, five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. Odegaard passed away at his home Sunday evening, November 26. 7169 Funeral services were conducted on Monday, October 12, 2009 at 1:30 P.M. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Marie Eckberg officiating. Casket bearers were Rod Pederson, Kenny Jerve, Galen Rud, Merrill Morlock, Rick Christenson and Mark Morlock. Interment was in the Jevnaker Lutheran Cemetery.

James Bloch, of Montevideo, died on Friday, October 9, 2009 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 72.

James Edward Bloch was born on January 6, 1937 in Worthington, MN to Harold and Susan (Schmidt) Bloch. He attended Westbrook High School, graduating in 1955. He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1956 and after serving four years, was honorably discharged in 1960. He spent seventeen months aboard ship in the Aleutian Islands, was stationed both in Adak and Kodiak, sailed down to Juneau and out to Attu (four times) and over the Arctic Circle to Kotzebue, stopping at Nome. Following his discharge, he worked at various companies before moving to Montevideo in 1966, where he worked at Control Data, which is currently known as MTI/SL. On December 13, 1975 he was united in marriage to Charlene Pederson at Jevnaker Lutheran Church. He was a member of Jevnaker Lutheran Church, holding numerous council positions and served one year as president. He loved to garden and was generous with his time helping others. He loved kids, doing crossword and sodoku puzzles, Nascar racing and out of door activities such as fishing and hunting.

Survivors include his wife, Charlene; four children: Cheryl (Greg) Tovsen, Prior Lake, MN; Steve (Judy) Bloch, Montevideo, MN; Scott (Julie) Bloch, Svea, MN and Lori (Tim) McNichols, Greenville, WI; nine grandchildren; a great grandson; three sisters and seven brothers.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister, two sisters-in-law, and a niece.

7170 Funeral services were held for Austin B. Brekken Sr., at 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 9, at the Vang Lutheran Church with Rev. Terrence Fretheim officiating. At the church service Mrs. Fretheim sang "The Lord Is My Sheperd". Mrs. Cyrus Midge presided at the organ. Honorary pallbearers were LeRoy Brekken, David Lenway, and Mark Lenway. Dennis Brekken, Robert Reko, Richard Lenway, Burnett Jacobson, Merle Svien and Iver Halvorson served as pallbearers. Interment took place a the Vang Cemetery. Austin was born Dec. 7, 1888 to parents Knut and Sissel Ives Svien. After baptism on Jan. 6, 1889 he was taken to live with foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Even S. Brekken of Dennison. Mrs. Brekken was his aunt. He grew to manhood on their family farm, later moving to Northfield where he attended High School and Saint Olaf college. He also attended college at Saint Ansgar, Iowa. Dec. 14, 1910, at the Methodist Church at Monticello, he was united in marriage to Tulie Read. They established their home on the Brekken farm for 46 years, then retired to Northfield where they resided until May of 1968 when due to ill health they became residents of the Kenyon Sunset Home. Mr. Brekken served as Warsaw Township Clerk for many years and on the School board. He was a life member of Vang Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Evan who was a casualty of Pearl Harbor, two grandsons; Bruce Sunde and Larry Brekken, five brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife Tulie, five sons; Austin, Jr. of Dennison, Lyle of Cannon Falls, Levi of Portland, Oregon, Wilfred and Harvey both of Northfield, and four daughters; Caroline (Mrs. Vernon Reko) of Kenyon, Adeline (Mrs. Harold Lenway), Bertha (Mrs. Sanford Sunde) both of Faribault and Avis of Minneapolis, also 23 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and one brother Knut Svien of Red Wing. BREKKEN, Austin B (I32852)
