Funeral services for Carl Bernhard Elthon, 80, formerly of Valley Grove Community, were held on Jan. 17, at the Valley Grove Lutheran Church with the Rev. C. W. Holte officiating. Interment was made in the Valley Grove Cemetery in Wheeling Township. Pallbearers were Herbert Baalson, Evertt Hamann, Ingvald Henderson, Carl Hope, Alfred Severson and Melvin Stanbakken. Mrs. Donald Hope, organist, accompanied soloist, Walter Borgstahl, as he sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus." Carl Bernhard Elthon was born on Oct. 26, 1889, in Wheeling Township to Hans and Kari Clemetson Elthon. He was united in marriage to Inger Lockrem on June 6, 1917, in Valley Grove. He was a life long member of the Valley Grove Lutheran Church. Mr. Elthon, who passed away in Hallock on Jan. 13, is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert (Ione) Johnson of Hallock; two grandchildren, Gary and Lowell Johnson; one sister, Mrs. Emma Torblaa of Crafton, N.D. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, five brothers and six sisters. Friends and relatives attended the funeral from Hallock, Owatonna, Faribault, Northfield, Nerstrand, Warsaw, Minneapolis, St. Paul, Cannon Falls, Dennison, Kenyon, Zumbrota, Edina, Coon Rapids, New Richmond and Lady Smith, Wis.

Little Lester Lee, a Superior boy, was drowned at that city Friday night while playing with a raft on the bay at Central Park. The body was found with a dragnet after several hours search.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, November 19, at 2 p.m. for Mrs. Amelia Komprud, 88, who passed away Sunday, November 15, at the St. Olaf Rest Home in Northfield. She had been in failing health for a long time. The Rev. B. J. Blikstad officiated. Mrs. Blikstad sang two numbers,"I Know Of A Sleep In Jesus Name" and "Forbil has mig", with Mrs. Cyrus, church organist, at the organ. The pallbearers were Omar Ostenson, Melvin Johnson, Obert Remme, Bennard Ellingboe, Oscar Hellerud and Alfred Svien. Interment was in the Vang Cemetery. Amelia Paulson was born in Fillmore County September 25th, 1871. She attended school there and was confirmed in the Lanesboro Church. On June 29, 1898, she was married to Ole Komprud of Dennison and lived in the Dennison community all her married life. Both Mr. and Mrs. Komprud were life-long members of the Vang Lutheran Church. Five children were born to the couple. Surviving are Mrs. John (Palma) Vesledahl, Nerstrand, Mrs. Ben (Mabel) Hillestad, Northfield; Walter Komprud, MInneapolis and Leonard Komprud of Dennison. She also leaves a foster daughter, Mrs. Walter (Clara) Gustafson, Minneapolis, one granddaughter, Mrs. Aarland Haugen, Cedar Falls, Iowa, and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Alvin; two sisters and four brothers.

Oscar Eggum, 66, retired farmer of this community, died Friday about 3:30 p.m. at his home in Dennison. Mr. Eggum has been suffering with a heart ailment for the past four and a half years but died very suddenly. Mr. Eggum was born March 25, 1887 and had farmed about two miles south of here for 37 years. He recently sold the farm to his son Obert and moved to this village just a few months ago. Surviving beside his wife are four sons, Clarence of Cannon Falls, Phillip of South Dakota, Obert of Dennison and Glenmore of LaCrosse, Wisconsin; and two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Evelyn) Dvorak of Northfield and Mrs. Johnny (Marian) Flom of Wanamingo Township. Funeral services will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the home and at 2 p.m. at the Vang Lutheran Church. Friends may call at the Anderson Funeral Home, Northfield, Sunday afternoon and evening and at the family home Monday morning.

Funeral services for Ellsworth Dammer, who died in the Northfield Hospital Tuesday, August 23, following injuries received in an automobile accident on the Dennison road on Saturday, August 20, was held Friday, August 26 at the Valley Grove Lutheran Church. The Rev. Harlan Foss officiated at 2:00 p.m. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery. Pallbearers were Arthur Sherman, Clarence Donoho, Oscar Solheim, William Thompson, Robert Zimmerman and Homer Gillespie.

Ellsworth Edward Dammer was born on August 4, 1922, in Chicago the son of Edward and Amelia Holtz Dammer. He lived with his parents at Black Duck before moving to Dennison. He was a veteran of World War II. He was married on January 26, 1945 to Hazel Haugen of Dennison and they made their home in Dennison until last fall when they moved to Northfield. He commuted to Minneapolis each day where he was employed at the Purina Mills. The couple were making plans to move onto a farm near Northfield.

Besides his wife, Mr. Dammer is survived by two children Thomas, nine and Kathleen, six years of age; his parents who now live in Cloquet and five brothers, Melvin, of Duluuth; Walter and Herbert of St. Paul; Edgart of Northfield; Carl of Saginaw and one sister, Mrs. George Brewer of Chicago.

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Anton Remmen, who passed away at St. Lucas hospital in Faribault following a stroke she suffered at her home on Wednesday afternoon, February 4. A brief service was held at the family home at 1:30 p.m. and at the Vang Lutheran church at 2 p.m. and were conducted by the Rev. Adolph Egge. Interment was made in Vang cemetery. The pallbearers were Gilbert Tasa, John Johnson, N. O. Huseth, Charles Egtvedt, Bennie Kasa and Andrew Hoverstad. Mrs. Waldemar Ross of Stillwater, a niece, sang two solos, one at the home and one at the church. Mrs. Adolph Egge and Mrs. Cyrus Midge sang a duet at the church. Mrs. Remmen was born in Warsaw township, the daughter of Christopher and Berit Hoverstad Lockrem, December 1, 1875, and spent her entire life with the exception of two years when she lived in North Dakota. She attended public and religious schools in this community. She was united in marriage to Anton Remmen September 15, 1917 at Sioux City, Iowa. She was a life long member of the Vang congregation, baptized by Rev. Bockman and in 1890 was confirmed by the Rev. Ofstedahl. Beside her husband she leaves one daughter, Miss Theodora and a nephew, Lawrence Lockrem, to whom she gave a mother's love and care. She is also survived by one brother, Austin Lockrem of Dennison. Three sisters and five brothers preceded her in death. Relatives from away were: E. R. Carr, Boulder, Colo., Mrs. W. H. Ross, Stillwater, Mrs. Dena Lockrem and Fred Lockrem, Mrs. Victor Olson of Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Nels Lockrem of Cannon Falls and A. F. Tullberg of Albert Lea.

Funeral services were conducted at the Vang Lutheran Church on Wednesday, Jan. 13 at 1:30 p.m. for Mrs. Marit T. Estrem, 77, who passed away Sunday afternoon at her home in Dennison after an illness of several years. The Rev. B. J. Blikstad, pastor of the Dennison Lutheran Parish officiated. Interment was at the Vang Cemetery. Pallbearers were: William Swarts, Gordon Ostenson, Even Halverson, A. J. Bestul, Phillip Hauge and L. C. Davenport. Mrs. Blikstad sand "Heaven Is My Home" and "Forbliv Hos Mig", with Mrs. Cyrus Midje as the organist. Marit Haugen, daughter of Thomas and Guri Haugen, was born November 20, 1876, in Valders, Norway and was baptized and confirmed in the Vang Church there. In 1900, at the age of 24, she came to this country and on July 3, 1905 was married to Nels J. Estrem, of Dennison, at Red Wing. They lived in Dennison and community ever since. Mr. Estrem, a son Alfred and a daughter, Mrs. Selma Carlson preceded her in death. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Herman (Thea) Vorlander of Dennison; two sons, Thomas of Dennison and Norman of St. Paul; one granddaughter, Bertha Carlson and one grandson, John Estrem of Dennison. Attending the funeral from away were: Mr. and Mrs. William Vorlander and Gene Lindgren of Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. George Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Estrem of St. Paul and a number of friends from nearby towns.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 15, at 2 p.m. at the Vang Lutheran church for Thomas T. Haugen, 86, who passed away at the St. Olaf Rest Home in Northfield, Thursday, July 11. In the absence of the regular pastor, the Rev. B. J. Blikstad, the Rev. H. S. Bly, officiated. The vocalist was Mrs.Oscar Overby with Mrs. Cyrus Midje at the organ. The pallbearers were Herbert Haugen, Donald Haugen, Gerhard Haugen, Andrew Hoverstad, William Hunt and George Sevcik. Interment was in the Vang Cemetery. Thomas T. Haugen, son of Thomas N. and Gertrude Haugen, was born Nov. 16, 1876, in Warsaw Township. He attended the local schools and was a member of the Vang Lutheran Church. He suffered a heart attack at the St. Olaf Rest Home, where he had lived since his retirement. He never married. He was well known in Dennison as he had been employed at the Dennison Elevator Co. and at the Dennison Hardware Store before going to Northfield, where he was employed for many years at Carleton College before he retired. He is survived by two brothers, Christ and Carl of Dennison and one sister in North Dakota. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters.

Funeral services for Orlando Gerhard Lien, who passed away July 14 at the Northfield City Hospital at the age of 48, were held Monday, July 17 at 2 p.m. at the Vang Lutheran Church with the Rev. John E. Fahning officiating. Lois Johnson was accompanied by organist Mrs. Cyrus Midge in two selections. Pallbearers were Oswald Lee, Myron Ellingboe, Bernard Ellingboe, Arnold Ellingboe, Ulysses Kalseth and Lester Kalseth. Interment was in the Vang Cemetery with graveside services by Eugene H. Truax VFW Post of Northfield. Mr. Lien, son of Andrew and Anna Lockrem Lien, was born June 2, 1919 in Northfield Township. He was baptized and confirmed at the Vang Lutheran Church, of which he was a life member, June 9, 1951 he was united in marriage to Meredith Haugen of Dennison, Minn. They established their home on the Lien homestead where he lived his entire life except for the time he served in the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II. He is survived by his widow; three children, Russell, Rebecca and Douglas; one brother, Lloyd of Faribault; four sisters, Gladys (Mrs. Roy Husbyn) of Cannon Falls, Irene (Mrs. Francis Powers) of Inglewood, Calif., Alice (Mrs. Obert Eggum) of Dennison and Dorothy (Mrs. Lorry Starch) of Nerstrand and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Agnes.
