7021 From N. Bøeiga.

7022 From notes on Anne Marie Digene on the Johnson website.

(As told by Elna Johnson, Fall, 2000) Anne Marie Digene came from Norway with a cousin ( no name known) and traveled to Minnesota to stay with an older sister, Gunhild/Julia in 1903/04. Her father drove her from Hedalen to Oslo with a horse cart. She was just 18 when she came, and pretty adventurous. She came through Castle Garden, where she was checked out for diseases (a story she told for years). She was sponsored by sister Julia. She came to Ellensburg, Washington, and stayed at the Eidal farm. She met her husband-to-be, John David, at Sarah Digene Wold's in their two story house, which is torn down now. She had never seen her sister Sarah (Siri) Digene Belgum Wold, who was 21 years older than her, until she came to the US. Anne's father's brother was the first to come...and that was how Sarah came. Sarah did not move to Ellensburg until after her first husband Belgum died. Anne worked at various jobs around Ellensburg when she first came. (Chris Eidal and Charlie Anderson were friends in Roslyn, And when Anne and John David Johnson were married, they lived and worked at Charlie Anderson's. Later they were sold the 12 acres that is still in the family today, and where Elna, Della, Charlie, and Melvin grew up. The 12 acres was "on the wrong side of the track" for the Anderson farm...

By whom was this passage paid Erik Thompson

The manifest for the Adria, which had sailed from Kristianssand on 24 September, agrees with this summary. She was a servant and had $4. Her destination was her sister, “Hullie” E Thompson of Clarissa, Minnesota. She had a ticket to that final destination.

In the 1910 census, she is living with her sister Sadie Eidal’s family in North Kittitas Precinct, Kittitas County, Washington. The Eidals don’t live far from Sarah and Peter Wold. John D. Johson lives next door to the Eidals.

Died on October 22 according to her death certificate (#182).

Her obit, as posted by Alison on Anne Maria’s Find A Grave page:

7023 From notes on Janet Johnson’s page: Charlie Anderson, Chris Anderson, and J Augustus Swensson were brothers. Chris Anderson is Hakon Swensson. Carl Johan Swenssen is Charley Anderson, and Charley Johnson took his name because he was John's son. Note: Ed Dahl's mother was a sister to all of those names, and Ivar=Johns Davaid Johnson's first cousin, whose father was next to the youngest. SVENSSON, Johan Augustus (I9356)

7024 From notes provided on the Johnson-Poulsbo site:

The name of the ship he came in is in Ellensburg; this info was in the archives. He got his citizenship here in 1922. In Sweden he lived near a lake and he fished by leaving his line down at night, and he had fish in the morning.

He came here in 1904 {1902 according to the 1910 census} to help his uncle and met his wife in the Woldale District. They were married in 1911. She was there with her sister, Sigrid Eidal.

He was a Svenssen when he came, but he changed his name to Johnson because his Dad's name was John. He had milk cows and raised a little hay, and worked out, too. Charlie Anderson had him stay up at Roslyn with a brother, Chris Anderson, who had a coal mine, later sold. (Chris needed help because of some type of mental disability.) He did this before he was married, probably when he was 18 or 19.

He worked on the town irrigation ditch, and each farmer worked on the Olson ditch to clean it out in the spring time. Peter Wold worked on the Olson ditch. They used to call it the Wold ditch.

He arrived in New York on April 1, 1903, aboard the Campania.

In the 1910 census, John D. Johnson, 24, was living with his uncle Charles J. Anderson on the neighboring farm to Chris Eidal where his future wife, Anna Digen, 24, was living.

He registered for the draft on September 12, 1918, in Ellensburg as John David Johnson. He was a self-employed farmer living at R.R. 4, Ellensburg, and he listed his nearest relative as his wife, Mrs. Anna M. Johnson. He was described as tall and of medium build with blue eyes and light brown hair.

At the time of the 1920 census in early January, the family was living on Day Creek Road in the North Kittitas precinct of Kittitas County, Washington. The family consisted of John D. Johnson, 34, Anna M., 33, Adella W., 7, Melvan A., 5, Elias D., 3 and 10 months, and Edna M., 9 months. John is a farmer and owns his farm without a mortgage. John came to this country in 1903 and Anna M. in 1905. All of the children were born in Washington.

Shown as David J. in the 1930 census (April 12). The family lived next door to the Eidals on State Highway Road, Route 4, in North Kittitas Precinct, Kittitas County. The family was David J., 45, Anna Marie, 44, Della M., 18, Melvin S., 15, Charles O., 14, and Elna T., 11. David owns the house and the household has a radio.

In the 1940 census, he, as David Johnson, and Anna and “Alma” lived in North Kittitas Precinct. He was a farmer.

He registered for the World War II draft in 1942 as John David Johnson. At that time, he and Anna lived on Route 1 in Ellensburg where John was self-employed.
