From information in the 1801 Norwegian census and in the record for Halvor’s marriage to Rebekka, we can deduce that, in that census, he is the 8 year-old Halvor Olsen, son of Ole Gunnersen, 42, and Maret Halvorsdatter, 36, one of five families living on the Havsaas farm in Romfoe, Sundal in Romdal. Halvor’s siblings were Gunner Olsen, 10, Sigri Olsdatter, 6, Anne Olsdatter, 3, and Ingri Olsdatter, 1.
Halvor and Rebekka were living with Erik and Ane at the time of the 1865 census. Halvor is shown as a “Føderaadsmand” which meant that he was receiving support after giving his estate to another. Erik is shown as the owner of the farm (Selveier). However, Halvor Olsen’s grandson, Halvor Iversen, seems to own the farm in the 1886 land register. See notes for Erik (#122) and Halvor (#119).
Magnar calls him Hallvar Olson Hafsås. Geni World Family Tree calls him “Halvor Olsen Sæter (born Hafsås). | HAFSÅS, Halvor Olsen (I4192)

From Jan: “John Quaid's father was actually William Quain not William Quaid. In Ireland the Quaid and Quain names are interchangable. But they are basically the same name-the original name was Quain. Just about every generation there was a Fitzgerald who married a Quain, so the families are very close and mixed up -- but all are descendants from the "White Knight".”
Also from Jan: “George says the family came from the Manister parish. He lives in Patrickswell. A few years ago I spoke to another Quaid cousin, Catherine O'Riodan, who said she owned the Crean property.”
In the 1895 Minnesota state census, the girls had left home but the three boys were still on the farm in Milo Twp, Mille Lacs County, Minnesota. John's occupation was painter. The family had been in Minnesota for 12 years, 6 months, and in Foreston for 4 years and 10 months.
In his granddaughter Mary Catherine’s birth record he is referred to as Gulielumus Quaid.
Wilhelm, 60 (b. January 1840), his wife Cate, 57 (b. January 1843), and their son Wilhelm, 22 (b. May 1878) were living in Foreston in the 1900 census. Wilhelm Sr. was a farmer. All three had been born in Ireland. Husband and wife had been married for 33 years. Cate had had 7 children, 5 still living. Wilhelm Sr. is shown as having come to the U.S. in 1885 but no similar date is shown for his wife or their son.
In the 1905 Minnesota state census, William and Kate were in Foreston along with their three sons and their families. The Quaids had been in the U.S. for 21 years and 6 months and had been in Foreston for 5 years and 6 months.
Living in Foreston village, Mille Lacs County, Minnesota, in the 1910 census. Came to the U. S. in 1889.
Still living in Foreston village in the 1920 census but he is now a widower.
Died of chronic myocarditis complicated by senility. Was living with his daughter Margaret and family at 710 Jackson Street in Minneapolis at the time of his death. | QUAID, William (I8943)

From Jan’s source in Sweden: You asked about the parents of Josefina Albertina but that is impossible to find. She was born in 1851 but in the birth record in Dagsås where she was born is she not. I found a Josefina Albertina in 1853 but that is not sure it's correct. In the census 1890 is she born in 1851.

From Jim Ellingboe’s notes: Steffan was not from Vang. He was a servant at Garstad and a soldier in the Igdun regiment. In Garstad, he met his wife, and they took over Brekken from her brother-in-law (Torstein Kristensen Hålien). He is also called Steffan T Garstad. Barbro and Steffen only had one daughter; Marit (1707-1757). | Steffan Torgeirsen (I24484)

Not to be confused with #11915.
Tom Williams, in his Williams-Stegall Family Tree, has him as the son of Mads Andersen Thune and Gunild Jonsdatter Ellingbøe Kvale. The bygdebok (Vang A, p. 635) suggests that that Mads Andrisson was the son of Andris Sjugurdsson Uvdal and Ingebjørg Ivarsdatter Tune. Tom Williams also shows that lineage so we’ll assume here that Tom WIlliams is correct. | KVALE, Trond Madsen (I43912)

He is Torkjell Torsteinson Kvåle, I155, in Jim’s VS.
Jim’s notes:
