6451 Evangeline was the second of his (at least) four wives.

His gravestone indicates that he was a SP5 in the U.S. Army in Vietnam.

6453 Evelyn Julia (Redwing) Christopherson, age 91, She left this life on Dec. 2, 2007 at Our House Memory Care in Austin, Minn.

Evelyn entered this life in Bruce, Wis. on May 16, 1916. Evelyn graduated from Austin High School in 1934. She married Loren E. Christopherson in 1939. He passed away in 1976. To this union three daughters were born. She worked in her husband's two grocery stores during the early years of her marriage and later as bartender/waitress at Lefty's Bar earning her gold union card for 44 years of membership. She was a longtime member of the VFW, Fraternal Order of Eagles and the American Legion auxiliaries.

"Evie" was loved and respected by her family and the many people she served over the years. Her two rules, "always be a lady" and "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything" are her legacy. She left us quietly and quickly, never wanting to be a bother. Her way. We miss her.

Evelyn is survived by her daughters: Lora Lee Bauer, Austin, Minn., Linda (Steve) Hoag, Austin, Minn., Lisa Ramirez, Farmington, Minn.; Seven grandchildren: Tara Anderson, Wade (Jody) Bauer, Lia, (Jason) Culbert, Christyn, (Brandon) McFarland, Chelsea Hoag (Brandon Smith), Rose and Riki Ramirez and nine great-grandchildren; brother: Alvin (Geraldine) Redwing, Austin, Minn.; sisters-in-law: Delores Redwing, Portland Ore., Vernyce Austin and Delphy Voorhees, Austin, Minn.; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Bernice Vedder, Myrtle Carlson, Doris Ness, brother Chester Redwing.

6454 Evelyn Mildred Herfindahl was welcomed as the youngest member of the family on March 26, 1916 by her parents Olaus and Theodora Ulrikka (Olson) Herfindahl and by her brothers and sisters Henry, Eleanor, Ruby, Laurine, Orel and Telford, who have all predeceased her. Evelyn attended Baker School, was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and grew up on the family homestead farm. Evelyn took loving care of her mother for many years until her death. One of her favorite things was learning to play the piano. She played for her church at Trinity Lutheran and continued playing for her enjoyment up to the last month of her life.

On October 10, 1935 she became the bride of Oscar Rye in Sidney, MT. Shortly after they married they moved to California where Oscar's parents resided. During the summer they would return to farm the Rye family homestead and eventually they bought a piece of property North of Tioga. They continued to go to CA during the winter and return to ND in the summer. On April 26, 1942 their son Leon Orin was born in Los Angeles, CA. They purchased a home in Tioga and on September 18, 1946 they welcomed their daughter Diane Alona. Oscar passed away as a result of a tractor accident on April 27, 1949. Evelyn became a single mother of two small children. She remained in Tioga caring for her children and had a part-time job working for Anthony's Department store.

She married Arnold Ives on May 27, 1960. They loved traveling and took many trips together. Arnold passed away on January 6, 1968.

Evelyn married Melvin Skarphol on July 17, 1972. Together they enjoyed music, he played violin and she the piano. Melvin passed away on August 4, 1983.

Lavern Johnson was her long time friend and companion until his passing on May 8, 2000. While together they were considered "snowbirds" and spent their winters in Arizona.

Evelyn continued to live in AZ and Tioga until the last three years when she became a permanent resident of Chandler, AZ. While still in Tioga she was a member of the Tioga Senior Citizens. She moved into Sunrise Retirement Living on March 1, 2011 where she lived until her passing at the age of 95.

She is survived by her son, Leon (Carol Olson) Rye of Peoria, AZ; daughter, Diane (Larry) Buschow of Gilbert, AZ; her grandchildren, Scott Rye, Leanne Rye, Leah Scavo, Jacqueline (Billy) Pirie, and Koren (Jason) Metcalf; her great-grandchildren, Clayton, Sophia, Victor, Emmah, Olivia, Preston, Sammy, Savannah, Scarlett and Mia; sister-in-law, Vivian Herfindahl; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her infant sister, Myrtle Herfindahl; and her granddaughter, Alona Denise Holte.

6455 Evelyn Thelma Ellingboe was born Oct. 14, 1920, to Oliver and Severina (Flaten) Freettem. She was raised on a farm between Stanton and Cannon Falls. She attended the Cannon Falls schools. After graduating from Cannon Falls High School, she attended Cannon Falls Normal Training for Teachers. She taught in several country schools in southeastern Minnesota, including Lonsdale, rural Dennison and Stanton.

She married Bennard Ellingboe June 28, 1946. They settled in Dennison where they were residents for more than 50 years. They moved to Cannon Falls in 2001.

She was an active member of the Wangen Prairie Lutheran Church before she was married. She was a member of Dennison Lutheran Church since 1946 and served in many offices and committees and taught Sunday School. She was a member of the Dennison Study Club, PTA and was very involved in the Dennison Birthday Club. She was very helpful and generous to many charitable organizations. She cared for her ailing mother in the last several years before her mother's death.

She loved animals and flowers and read hundreds of books.

Ellingboe is survived by her husband, Bennard; three sons, John (Linda) of Seattle, Wash., Paul (Bonnie) of Plymouth, and James of Grand Forks, M.D.; one daughter, Helen Jones of Sioux Falls, S.D.; seven grandchildren, Cindy and Kristin of Seattle, Wash., Meggan of Washington, D.C., Mason of Plymouth, Jacob, Julia and Jessica of Grand Forks, N.D.; one niece, Elsa Frettem of St. Paul; and one nephew, Peter Frettem of Cannon Falls.

She was preceded in death by her father, Oliver Frettem; mother, Severina Frettem; two sisters, Selma Frettem and Margaret Frettem; one brother, Olaf Frettem; and one sister-in-law, Helena Frettem.

6456 Evelyn Virginia (Engel) Swenson, age 87, went to her eternal home on Wednesday, July 16, 2008.

She was born Oct. 11, 1920, in Oshkosh, to Ella and Oscar Engel, orphaned at age two, and raised by her stepmother, Mayta Engel, who supported herself and Evelyn by working as a live-in housekeeper for various families in Madison. A child during the Depression, Evelyn told of how poor she and her mother were, once having only 34 cents to their name.

While serving as a U.S.O. hostess during World War II, she met her future husband, Arthur, at a dance at Truax Field, and they were married Aug. 18, 1943. They enjoyed 62 years together. Evelyn worked as secretary for the Kathryn Hubbard Dance Studio for many years, and at the University of Wisconsin in the Mass Communications and the Dairy Science departments.

She was an active member of Luther Memorial Church her entire life. She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, played hand bells, directed the Sunday school Christmas pageant at a time when more than 500 children were involved, was queen of the kitchen, active in her women's circle, and served as secretary of the church council. Her strong faith was a witness to many.

Evelyn was a long-time volunteer at Meriter Hospital. She and Arthur loved dogs and operated a doggy day-care for many years. When they moved to Oakwood West she found ways to get involved there, including participating in a writers group. Evelyn was a caring and loving person, often opening her home to others who would otherwise be spending holidays alone. She made friends everywhere she went. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Evelyn is survived by two daughters, Mary (Lee) Powell of Madison and the Rev. Marsha Swenson of Reedsburg; four grandchildren, Andrew (Anisa), Angela, Karen, and Kathryn (Scott); six great-grandchildren, Shamsa, Amani, Maryam, Nusaybah, Jeremy, and Teagan; her sister, Lorraine Brocks; and many wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, in 2004.

He was a soldier in Norway. He was the heir to his father’s plass in Høllen on Høverstad.

He and Anne were living on Høllen in the 1865 census with their children Sigri, age 19, Anne, age 17, Kristofer, age 12, and Ingri, age 7.

The records of the Norway Lake Lutheran churches have this entry for Even: “Even H. Hollen, born in Balders, married with Anna Tostenson, born in Balders. To Goodhue County 1866.”

In the 1870 census, he and his family lived in Warsaw Twp, Goodhue County, Minnesota. The household consisted of Even Helgeson, 67, Anna, 49, Christopher, 15, Even, 8, and Ida, 11.

In the 1880 census, he was Even Helgerson, now living with his family in Kerkhoven Twp, Swift County. His household consisted of Even, 77, Anne, 60, Anne, 29, Christ, 24, Even, 17, and a 9 year-old adopted daughter named Maria Olson. Maria had been born in Minnesota and her father in Norway. Everyone else in the household had been born in Norway.

He was 91 year-old Even Hollen, living with his son Even in Kerkhoven Twp, in the 1895 Minnesota state census.
