According to Carl Johan, Johan was called Johan i Ryd because of where he lived (Rydöbruk). Carl Johan also says that he was Johan Martin in his birth record.
Carl Johan and Jan have found information suggesting that Karl Olaf Wigren, a sailor, may have been the biological father of Johan Mårten. In the birth records for Johan Mårten, he is shown as the illegitimate son of Elin Strömgren, no father listed. However, in the household examination for the fortress of Varberg and Karlsborg, Anders is stated as Johan’s father.
From Diana’s research:
Before he went to Torup, Halland, Johan was a millitary man in Karlsborg with the number 25. There he called himself Johan Mårten Persson Lundberg. Before he moved to Karlsborg he lived in Mariestad. He moved from Mariestad to Karlsborg in 1835. He and Maria Elisabet Lind married 12 Jan 1840 in Karlsborg. Maria Elisabet moved from Undernäs to Karlsborg in 1839.
Johan is referred to as Arb. No. 25 M. Persson in the record for his marriage.
He and Maja and his first son are listed in a clerical survey in Karlsborg. By the 1840s the family is in Rydö.
The census image for Johan in the late 1860s and very early 1870s seems to say April 1st. The May 3rd birth date is confirmed in another census or church record that Jan has received from a contact in Sweden.
At the time of a census in the late 1860s and very early 1870s, the family consisted of the parents plus Johan Alfred, Carl Oscar, Carl Gustaf, Johan August, Leander, and Vilhelm (Wilhelm) born in 1864.
Rydö is a place in Torup in Halland. There is or was a paper mill there too. Johan Lundberg worked as a rag-man and sold rag to the paper mill.

According to Carl Johan, Petter was “the bailiff at Häckeberga castle” and, therefore, was known as Petter “Per på Häckeberga” Lundberg. As the bailiff (vogt) and butler at Häckeberga castle, Genarp, Skåne, he was the agent or steward of the owner of the castle. He lived approximately 1743-1801. | LUNDBERG, Petter Swensson (I18761)

According to Carl Johan, Sven never used the name Lundberg. Became a tenant farmer.
Further research from Carl-Johan:
Sven’s main occupations were as a policeman (lower policeman, e.g., bailiff) and tenant farmer. His first marriage (unknown year) was to a Bengta Larsdotter, b. ca 1781, who died before 1817. They had children: Pär, b. 22 Nov 1805 in Lyngby (declared dead); Peter, b. 8 Oct 1807 in Lyngby; Elna, b. 29 Sep 1809 in Lyngby; and Anders, b. 26 Feb 1812 in Hyby. The second marriage was 17 Dec 1817 in Svedala to a Kjersti Jönsdotter, b. 12 Feb 1797 in Svedala, d. 12 May 1846. Their children were Bengta, born 15 Aug 1821; Jons, b. 6 Sep 1826, d. Sep; Per, b. 25 Apr 1829; Margaretha, b. 16 Jun 1832, d. 15 Apr 1843; Jons, b. 26 Oct 1835; Carl Petter, b. 10 Mar 1839, d. 19 Jan 1844. Sven died 5 Mar 1853 in Svedala at the age of 68.
Sven Pettersson seems to have lived as a typical "torparliv" in 1800s Sweden. He had four sons who, after his own father, are named Pe(tte)r. Nothing spectacular, however, his second son Peter (born in 1807) is listed in the birth book with the Christian name "Petter Ullric Willhelm.” The practice of giving three first names, I recall, only occurred in the upper classes at the time. Sven was crofter but his father was sheriff. Thus, it may be safe to assume that his grandfather's full name was Peter Ulrik Wilhelm Svensson Lundberg. His birth notice remains to be found to confirm this! | PERSSON, Sven (I18820)

According to Cathy, Olaf trained as a baker in Trondheim. His dream was to come to America and have his own bakery, which he did in Virginia. It was called Bye's Bakery, circa 1928 to 1948. Bertha Knudsen was also from Bodø. Herman Iver Lerdahl and met my grandmother at Byes Bakery.
As Olaf Martin Bye, age 22, he arrived in the U.S. at Philadelphia in May of 1903 aboard the S.S. Noordland which had sailed from Liverpool on 22 Apr 1903. He was a baker. His last residence was Bodå in Norway. He was headed for Sioux Rapids, Iowa, where he was to meet his sister-in-law Madilla Knudson, who had been in the U.S. for 2 years. Traveling with him were two other men from Bodå (probably Bodø) and also headed to Sioux Rapids, Iowa, to meet Knudsons. The first listed was Oswald M. Karlsen, an 18 year-old butcher. He would meet his friend Sten Knudson in Sioux Rapids. The second listed was Sten Olai Knutson, an 18 year-old laborer. He would meet his sister Madilla Knutson. Listed a few lines up from Olaf Martin, Oswald, and Sten Olai were two men from Verdal.
In the 1910 census, as Olaf By, he was a baker living with his family in Biwabik. He had come to the U.S. in 1902. His wife Bertha had come to the U.S. with their oldest two children in 1905.
In the 1920 census, he was a baker in a bakery shop in Virginia, Minnesota. In this census, he is shown as having come to the U.S. in 1903.
In the 1930 census, he owns a bakery in Virginia, Minnesota.
He registered for the draft on 26 Apr 1942 in Virginia. He lived and worked at 208 South 5th Avenue in Virginia, Minnesota. | BYE, Olaf Martin Hansen (I14039)
