LOVERIDGE, George Sanford Jr (I5958)

6382 Enlisted in the U.S. Army on 10 February 1943 in Butte, Montana. In civilian life, he was a retail manager. At the time that he enlisted, he was still single.

Leonard A. "Lenny" Bollinger, 86, a military veteran, died Wednesday at his home in Glasgow, after a long illness.

Services are 10 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Glasgow, with burial in Highland Cemetery. Bell Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Leonard passed away at his home on Oct. 14, 2009, after a lengthy illness caused by transient ischemic attacks, or miniature strokes.

Leonard weighed less than 4 pounds when he was born Jan. 8, 1923, in Larslan, Mont., to Magdalena and Carl Bollinger, who tucked him into a shoebox in a dresser drawer to keep him warm from the blustery weather. The family later moved to Nashua, where Leonard and his brothers and sisters were raised.

He served on an anti-aircraft gun crew in Europe during World War II. After the war, Leonard returned to Nashua, where he met Margery Engels. They were married June 11, 1949, in Balsam Lake, Wis., and then moved to Glasgow.
For more than 30 years, Leonard and his brother Gordon ran Gordon's Foods in Glasgow, where Len's robust laugh couldn't be missed, and his occasional singing of "Happy Birthday" over the store's loudspeaker could be heard and enjoyed by all until he retired in 1988. He enjoyed reading, walking, dogs, gardening, singing loudly in church, football broadcasts on television, shaking things up in Glasgow when he saw the need and visiting with people in general.

He especially enjoyed his family and golfing, even one-sticking it in the winter. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, the Elks and the VFW. He was active in the community and served many years on the Glasgow School Board.

He is survived by his sister, Betty Jean Miller of Tucson, Ariz.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Marjorie Bollinger of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Gary and Mary Bollinger of Tucson; three daughters, Marleigh Bollinger of Shelby, Lynn Strand and husband Arnie Strand of Glasgow, and Sheryl Bollinger and husband Steve Myers of Englewood, Colo.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margery; his mother and father; his brothers Gordon "Geb" Bollinger, Harold "Bud" Bollinger and Carl "Mel" Bollinger; and his sister, Florence Pool.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Leonard's honor to a charity of the donor's choice.

HANSON, John Richard (I1016)

6386 Entered in the church book as Julia Maria.

In the 1898 Sioux Falls, South Dakota, city directory, she may be the Julia Ellingboe, stenographer, who rooms at 332 West 12th.

In the 1900 Sioux Falls directory, she is probably the Julia Ellingboe, stenographer, rooming at the Odd Fellow block.

In the 1905 Minnesota state census, she is age 28 and living with her parents and siblings in Martin Twp, Rock County.

Her father’s obit referred to her as Mrs. Sherman Coxe of Denver.

She was a 44 year-old widow living in Assembly District 63, Los Angeles County, with her son in the 1920 census. She has no occupation.

She was a 54 year-old widow living in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles County, California, with her son in the 1930 census. She has no occupation.

It is likely that Julia did not marry Sherman Richard Cox. In the 1910 census, Sherman R. Cox, 41, born in Illinois, was living in Denver with his wife of two years Bertha M., 31, born in Iowa. Living with the couple was his mother, Carrie M. Sherman. He appears to be a livestock merchant. In the 1920 census, Sherman R. Cox, 52, born in Illinois, was living in Los Angeles Assembly District 63 with his wife Bertha M., 41, born in Iowa, and their children, Jean C., 6, and William S., 5. Both children were born in Colorado. Sherman is a livestock grower. In the 1930 census, Sherman R. Cox, 61, born in Illinois, was living in Los Angeles Assembly District 58 with his wife, Bertha M., 50, born in Iowa, and their children Jean, 16, and William S., 15. Sherman had no occupation. So it would seem that, unless Sherman Richard divorced Bertha, married Julia, and then divorced Julia and remarried Bertha, Julia and Sherman Richard were not married and that Julia followed Sherman Richard to California and was dependent on him for support.
