Duane Brown, age 82, passed away on April 13, 2009, surrounded by his family. He was born to Wilma and Truman Brown in Hebron on July 13, 1926. His family moved frequently while he was young, primarily between Hebron and Oregon. He settled in Hebron to begin his family.
Duane married Kathryn Kutlas on June 29, 1953, and over the next 11 years they had five children. In 1963 the family was devastated by the death of their oldest son, Mickey. In 1969 they moved to Brightwood, Ore., where he resided until his death. His wife, Kathryn passed away in 1986.
Duane married Patricia Taylor in 1992 and was pleased to welcome her seven children and their families into the Brown family.
While in Oregon, Duane worked for Honke Heating and Air Conditioning for several years, before going to work for Portland General Electric. He retired in 1989.
As a young adult he spent his free time flying small planes. He continued the love of flying, but gave up the pilot seat to spend time with his young children. But always, flying remained among his most cherished memories. His other love was woodworking. After his retirement he enjoyed building furniture for his kids and grandkids. In his later years, he traded his large saws for carving knives, carving many beautiful pieces, ranging from small wooden Christmas ornaments to the altar for his church.
He was an active member of the Hoodland Lutheran Church, past member of the Mt. Hood Lions Club and past board member of the Hoodland Fire Department.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Kathryn Kutlas Brown, his oldest son, Michael John Brown and his step son, Jeffrey Taylor.
He is survived by his wife Patricia; children, Mary Brown, Seattle, Wash.; Fr. David Brown, Florence, Ore.; Daniel Brown (Naheed), Beaverton, Ore.; and Trudy Brown Vandehey (Russ), Oregon City, Ore.; step children, Mike Taylor, Portland, Ore.; Dan Taylor (Julie), Eagle Creek, Ore.; Casey Taylor (Jayne), Gresham, Ore.; Joe Taylor (Maggie), Rachel Taylor Brown (Jay), and Kathleen Taylor, all of Portland, Ore.; daughter-in-law, Karen Fischer, Madison, Ct., and grandchildren, Alex and Luke Taylor; Mike, Laura and Charlie Vandehey; Meagan Taylor and Reema, Shehtaaz and Raya Zaman.
He is also survived by his sisters, Janice Brown Kripal, Columbus; Andrea Brown Storz (Robert), Omaha and brother, Doug Brown (Michelle), Tacoma, Wash., and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends and his daily companion and dear friend, his beagle Peggy.
Remembrances may be made to Hoodland Lutheran Church or Mt. Hood Hospice.

Duane C. Young, 83, LaMoure, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, in his home.
Mr. Young was born Nov. 28, 1921, in Berlin, N.D., where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1939. He worked for Northwest Airlines, St. Paul. In 1943, he entered the U.S. Air Force. He served during World War II until his honorable discharge in 1945. He farmed in Berlin. On Feb. 14, 1947, he married Gwen Chappell in Fargo. They farmed in Berlin. They retired in 1989 and moved to LaMoure.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Larry (Bonnie), Encinitas, Calif., Kim (Rhoda), Curtis (Tami), both Berlin; three daughters, Paddy (Dale) Harris, Fort Lupton, Colo., Susan (Greg) Maier, Bismarck, Jody (George) Johnson, Fullerton, N.D.; two brothers, Wendell (Rachel), Berlin, John (Marcia), LaMoure; 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In the 1950 census, he and his family lived in Henrietta in LaMoure County, North Dakota, next to Duane’s brother Wendell. Duane was a farm operator. | YOUNG, Duane Charles (I19881)

Duane L. Bergstrom, age 73 of Morristown, formerly of New Market, passed away on 10-26-2011. He is preceded in death by sister, Doris Cousins. Duane Lyle Toso, 82, a resident of Pelican Rapids, died Saturday, March 12, 2016, at the Pelican Valley Health Center in Pelican Rapids.
Duane was born on the family farm in Maplewood on June 6, 1933, to Martin and Mabel (Weik) Toso.
He was the seventh of nine siblings, and family ties were important to him throughout his life. After graduating from Pelican Rapids High School in 1951, he joined the United States Army and was stationed in Korea. Back in Minnesota, he was certified as a watchmaker and worked for Ken Hanson Jewelry in Pelican Rapids.
He married Carol Ouren on Aug. 18, 1956, at South Immanuel Lutheran Church, and they moved to the Minneapolis area soon after. Duane worked for Honeywell in the aero spinmotor department, where he won a major award in 1963 for an innovation on gyroscope components used in the space program.
Wanting to raise their children near family, Duane and Carol moved back to Pelican Rapids in 1966 where he became an electrician, ending his career as an electrical inspector at Dynamic Homes in Detroit Lakes. He and Carol enjoyed dancing, and they took many family camping trips.
In retirement, Duane enjoyed time on his Allis Chalmers tractor transforming their lot at Prairie Lake, serving in the VFW Color Guard, helping his kids with various projects for their homes, making maple syrup, bonfires at the lake and playing cribbage with the grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings Bill, Evelyn, Viola, Vernon, Marilyn, Erwin and Darlene.
Duane is survived by his wife, Carol Toso of Pelican Rapids; his children, Deb (Dave) Linde of Corcoran; Larry (Audrey) Toso of Prior Lake; and David (Laura) Toso of Madison, Wisconsin; and his grandchildren Andrew, Alayna, Kayla (Alex), Steven, Samantha, Mitch, and Max.
He is also survived by his brother, Neil (Bette) of Mahnomen; three dozen nieces and nephews; and honorary grandsons Sam and Andrew Buck.

Duane W. Loe, age 90, of Willmar MN, formerly of Sacred Heart and Spicer, died Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at Copperleaf Assisted Living Center where he has lived for the last two years. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 10th, 2020, at Faith Lutheran Church in Spicer. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at the Sacred Heart Community Center, Sacred Heart, MN. Visitation will continue on Friday one hour prior to the services at the church in Spicer. Burial with military honors will follow the services on Friday at Our Savior’s Cemetery in Sacred Heart.
Duane was born March 25, 1929, in Montevideo, MN to Olaf and Anna (Haugland) Loe. He was baptized and confirmed in Wang Lutheran Church in rural Maynard, MN. He grew up on a farm near Maynard and graduated from Maynard High School. After graduation he went to work at Security Bank of Maynard from 1948 to 1950. He entered the US Army in 1950 and served for two years during the Korean War. After his discharge from service, he returned home and farmed for one year. He married Anitra Kanten on July 15, 1950, in Milan, MN. In 1954, they moved to Sacred Heart, MN where Duane began his 56 year employment at Farmers and Merchants State Bank. He started as a bookkeeper and worked his way up to be bank president and board member. While there, he also served as treasurer of the Sacred Heart Building Corporation, served 14 years on the Sacred Heart School board, served many terms on the Our Saviors Lutheran Church council, was a member of the SH American Legion and SH Village Chest treasurer. In 1994, Duane and Anitra moved to Spicer MN on Green Lake. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and served on the building committee when their new church was built.
Duane is survived by his wife, Anitra, daughter Margaret Loe of Willmar, sons David (Jane) Loe of St Louis MO, and Daniel (Cindy) Loe of Sacred Heart, 6 grandchildren, Carrie Loe (Robert Deer), Andy (Erin) Loe, Thomas Loe, Mitchell McAdams, Katherine (Adam) Jones, Adam (Lauren) Loe, and 7 great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Victoria, Avery, Riley, Addison, Simon and Samuel, and one sister Katherine Zucker. He is also survived by Anitra’s sister and her husband, Connie and Larry Dahlstrom, and her sister Ruthie Liebsch.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Robert (and his wife Vi) Loe, Anitra’s sister Wanda and her husband Don Michie, and his brothers-in-law Don Liebsch. | LOE, Duane W (I31283)
