Douglas G. Dahl Sr., 93, Cooperstown, ND, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2016 in Essentia Health, Fargo, ND.
Douglas was born April 11, 1923 in rural Cooperstown, ND, the son of John and Myrtle (Hagle) Dahl. He grew up near Hannaford, ND. He attended Clearfield and Bartley Schools and worked on the family farm. At the age of 22, Doug joined the Army and served in the Philippine Islands as a Medic. He married June Gunderson on July 16, 1947. Over the years Doug worked for Cussons Seed House, Farmer’s Elevator, Reiten Inc. and Right-A-Way Applicators. He enjoyed wood working, drawing, cars, going for drives and his dog, Ginger.
Doug is survived by a son, Douglas (Linda) Dahl, Horace, ND; daughters, Jennifer Weeks, Missoula, MT, Jackie (Josh) Sherlock, Cooperstown, ND; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Doug was preceded in death by his wife, June; infant son and grandson; daughter, Janel; son, Dwight; granddaughter, Nevada; Parents, John and Myrtle; 3 brothers, Quentin, Alvin and Morris; and 2 sisters, Moralen (Ginger) and Gladys.

Dr. Conrad E. Larson, age 87, of Apple Valley, formerly of Willmar, died Friday morning, March 31, at Ecumen Centennial House in Apple Valley.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 6, at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. Military honors will be provided by the Willmar American Legion Post #167. Interment will be at the Wang Lutheran Cemetery in Maynard. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, at the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Dr. Conrad Ervin Larson was born on May 11, 1929, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Conrad and Ruth (Bracken) Larson. He grew up in Hawk Creek Township, Renville County, Minnesota, and later moved to Minneapolis. Following the death of his parents, he was raised by his three sisters and they stayed together as a family. In 1947, Conrad graduated from Minneapolis South High School and from Luther College in 1952, with a Major in Music. Upon graduation from Luther College, Conrad was drafted into the U.S. Army and served overseas during the Korean War. On December 19, 1954, Conrad was united in marriage to Florence E. Holien and they made their home in Mora where Conrad and Florence taught school.
In 1955, they moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan and Conrad entered medical school. In 1961, Conrad graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School. He served general internship and residency in pathology at Mercy Hospital in Toledo, Ohio. Conrad began his medical practice in Decorah, Iowa and in 1975, moved to Willmar. Most of Conrad’s years of practice were at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, where he served as Chief of Pathology and Laboratory Director and later was Chief of Staff. Conrad was elected chairman of the Willmar School Board and later appointed to the Willmar Municipal Utilities Board of Commissioners.
He was a member of Vinje Lutheran Church and was active in the church choir. Conrad has always had a lifelong love for music and fine arts. He enjoyed writing music and performing as a singer, actor and play writer. He also enjoyed reading, traveling and watching old time classic movies.
He is survived by two children, Kristin (and Kevin) Amundson of Golden, CO., and Eric (and Karen) Larson of Apple Valley; two granddaughters, Hannah and Heidi Larson and one sister, Dorrie Walen of Arden Hills, besides other relatives and friends.

Dr. Edwin G. Olmstead, 83, Grand Forks, ND, died Thursday, January 20, 2005, at his home in Grand Forks.
Edwin Guy Olmstead was born August 26, 1921, the son of Earl and Mary (Fautch) Olmstead in Enderlin, ND. He was raised in Enderlin and graduated from Enderlin High School in 1938.
Following his graduation, he attended the University of North Dakota and graduated with Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees. He enlisted in the Unites States Army at Ft. Snelling, Minn., on June 8, 1943. While in the Army, he attended the University of North Dakota School of Medicine, where he earned a Master of Science degree. He completed his medical education at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he obtained his medical degree (MD). He was a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP); all five degrees were awarded with honors.
Edwin and Mary were married April 2, 1946, in Cambridge, MA. He completed residencies in Internal Medicine and Psychiatry and served as Assistant Head of Medicine at Milwaukee County General Hospital in Milwaukee, WI. He was honorably discharged from military service on June 9, 1948, at Ft. Sheridan, IL.
In 1957 Dr. and Mrs. Olmstead moved to Grand Forks, ND, where he practiced medicine at the University of North Dakota Health Center and was member of the faculty at the School of Medicine for eighteen years. Also, he taught Humanities and Literature in the Honors Program at the University of North Dakota.
In 1965, he entered into private practice as a psychiatrist in Grand Forks, and he was associated as a psychiatrist with Northeast Human Services in Grand Forks until 1996. Dr. Olmstead practiced medicine for fifty years. Following his retirement, he continued to reside in Grand Forks until his death.
He was an avid reader and published numerous professional articles and some mystery stories. Dr. Olmstead wrote a definitive text on Mammalian Cell Water, which was translated into seven languages.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, a former teacher of French; daughters musicologist Andrea Olmstead (son-in-law composer Larry Bell), of Boston, MA; Dr. Leslie Schulz, Dean of the College of Health Sciences at the University of Texas at El Paso, TX; a son, Kevin Olmstead, Grand Forks, ND; a sister, Mary Jean (Mrs. Floyd) Benton, Moorhead, MN, and several nieces and nephews, including a niece, Morrigan Benton-Floyd of Eureka, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dr. James G. Lawton, 84, died Dec. 20, 1991 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.
Dr. Lawton was born in Richland Co. on Mar. 28, 1907, the son of Alvie Raymond and Vesta B. (Greenwood) Lawton. He was a graduate of LaFarge High School and then attended Marquette University where he received his doctorate in dental surgery in May 1933. One June 7, 1936 he married Mabel E. Guist. He practiced dentistry in Viola for three years before moving to Viroqua where he practiced until April 1981. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Viroqua Kiwanis Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2707 and the Wisconsin Dental Assn. He was a major influence in establishing the new Lawton Library in LaFarge.
Dr. Lawton is survived by his wife Mabel; one daughter, Lynn Luke of Phoenix, AZ; one son, Larry (Sheila) Lawton of Los Angeles, CA; four grandchildren and one sister, Gwendolyn Cochran of Phoenix, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son-in-law, Loren Luke and two brothers, Robert W. and Harold R. Lawton. | LAWTON, James Greenwood (I22029)
