Doris Ellingboe, age 94 of Northfield, passed away with her daughter Karen by her side, on Monday afternoon, July 3, 2023, at Three Links Care Center.
Doris Anna (Zimmerman) Ellingboe was born August 30, 1928, on the family farm at Dennison, Minnesota, to William and Martha (Berg) Zimmerman. When Doris was just 6 years old her mother passed away and she had a very hard time. She attended Prairie Creek Country School near the farm and following her education work at home.
On June 14, 1947, Doris married Erick Ellingboe. After marriage they moved to the Ellingboe family farm where Doris worked along side Erick and his brothers - cooking, gardening and doing farm chores. During those years they had their daughter Karen. Doris and Karen shared a special relationship, more than just mother/daughter, almost like sisters.
In 1962, Doris began working as a custodian at St. Olaf College along side Erick. In 1964, they moved into Northfield to their longtime home on North Linden Street. Erick passed away on June 3, 1983. Doris remained at St. Olaf until retiring in 1990.
Doris was a lifelong member of Vang Lutheran Church. She enjoyed her home and her favorite saying was “Come when you can.” She was a “neat” lady who was always cleaning and caring for her home and garden. She had a special love for dogs - Penny, Tyler and now Karen’s dog little Jessie. She was hard working, caring and kind, and she will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Karen and Dale Schuette and their dog “Little Jessie” of Dennison; her special niece Darlene (Dean) Calvert of Faribault; her sister-in-law Diane Zimmerman of Northfield; many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Erick, her sister Margaret Baldwin, her brothers Lavern and Delmar Zimmerman, her half sister Marcella “Sally” Ersfeld, her half brothers DuWayne and Gary Zimmerman, her step-mother Julia (Sandvik), and her parents. | ZIMMERMAN, Doris Anna (I6813)
