4631 Cleone Jeanette Goodwin, 78, of Austin, died on Aug. 27, 2008, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

She was born Feb. 22, 1930 in Austin to Alvin and Evelyn (Swenson) Ulland. She graduated from Austin High School in 1948 and married Nathan K. Goodwin on June 11, 1950 at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church. They lived their entire married life on a farm in the Red Oak Grove area. A homemaker, Cleone enjoyed genealogy and wrote eight books, including one about the stained glass windows at St. Olaf Lutheran Church where she was a member for a number of years. She was a Bethel Series teacher and Sunday School teacher. A 4-H project leader, she was active in extension club and politics. Cleone was currently a member of Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her husband, Nathan Goodwin, rural Austin; two sons, Rodney Goodwin, Ames, Iowa, Jon (Patricia) Goodwin, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two daughters, Suzanne (Rick) Stephens, Los Angeles, Calif. and Nancy (Alan) Doucet, LaCrosse, Wis.; grandchildren, Chris (Laura) Goodwin, Ben (Heather) Goodwin, Laura (Jeremias) Sauceda, Kelly Goodwin, Michael Goodwin, Samantha (Brian) Delaney, Christine Doucet, Catherine Doucet and Patricia Doucet; great-grandchildren, Seth, Luke and Annika Sauceda and Zoe and Jackson Goodwin; two brothers, Ellsworth Ulland and Donald (Marlys) Ulland of Austin; two sisters, Carol (John) Cummings, Owatonna and Elaine (Jerry) Sievers, Portage, Mich.; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Laverne and a nephew, Greg Cummings. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church, rural Austin.

4635 Clifford "Cliff" H. Jacobson, 91, of La Crosse, passed away Sunday February 22, at Gunderson Lutheran Hospital.

He was born in Houston County, Minnesota on September 17, 1923 to Carl and Dora (Stigen) Jacobson. He grew up in the farming community of Spring Grove Minnesota with his six brothers and sisters. On August 14, 1943, he married Marjolaine Crawford in Spring Grove. They relocated to La Crosse and together raised six children.

Clifford was employed as a driver for Gateway Transportation of La Crosse for 35 years. He also drove the seniors minibus for Bethany Homes for approximately 10 years. He loved the outdoors and spent many happy hours trap shooting and caring for his collection of guns. Clifford and Marjolaine were members of St Pauls Lutheran Church in La Crosse for over 65 years, and celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in August of 2013.

Clifford is survived by five children, Cheryle (Doug Wenum) Valiquette of St Paul, Mn, Steve Jacobson of Onalaska, Wis, Angela (Jeffrey) Bluske of Onalaska, Wis, Christine Valentine of La Crosse, and Susan (Michael) Dobratz of Appleton, Wis. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. He is further survived by one brother, Norman (Lucille) Jacobson, of Loveland, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marjolaine, one adult daughter Marcia (Jacobson) LeMagne, and one infant daughter Katherine Mary Jacobson. Also preceded in death by his parents Carl and Dora Jacobson, two brothers Milton and Leslie Jacobson, and three sisters; Verna Weymiller, Lillian Ellingson, and Marie (Blomquist) Gullikson.

4636 Clifford A. Ness Jr., Bismarck, died, Friday, October 26, 2012, at a local hospital. A Masonic Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, November 3, 2012, at DaWise-Perry Funeral Services. There will be no visitation, as cremation has taken place.

Cliff was born in Berthold, ND, to Clifford A. and Agnes (Henrickson) Ness. He married Anna Laura “Pat” Gutensohn on December 27, 1959. Cliff served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1954, including service in Korea with the 24th Infantry Division 1951-1952. He also served with the Central Intelligence Agency in Vietnam from 1969-1973. He then served in various departments in the ND State Government until he retired in 1998. He became a member of the Masonic Lodge in 1962. Cliff was also a lifetime member of the ND Peace Officers Association.

Cliff is survived by his wife, Pat, daughters, Susan (Doug) Taylor and Holly (Steve) Speaks, granddaughters, Sydney and Tessa Speaks, sisters, Marlene (Ted) Willis, Shirley Brunsoman, brothers, Larry Ness and Mike Ness as well as other family members.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the ND Peace Officers Association, or the Bismarck Masonic Lodge #5.

Cliff loved his family and country and will be deeply missed.

4638 Clifford Milford’s obit lists a Mrs. Christena Helgeson as a grandparent which suggests that she was Odin’s mother.

According to the 1900 census, when she lived with Odin on a farm she owned in Clayton Twp, she had only had the one child. She was also shown as single in that 1900 census. In the 1910 census, she had had one child and that child was still alive.

In the 1940 census, she was the 80 year-old widow Christina Helgerson living in Soldiers Grove.
