Kristin Noreen Johnson Burkhart, 70, of S. Orange Street, Carlisle, died Friday April 27, 2007 in her home. She was born September 21, 1936, in DuBois, PA, the daughter of the late Royce O. and Evelyn Anderson Johnson.
Kristen spent her early years near Lafayette, PA, graduating from the eighth grade at the M. J. Ryan School, Bradford, PA in 1950. In 1954 she graduated from Clearfield High School, Clearfield, PA and in 1958 received a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Millersville University. She held elementary teaching positions in Ewing Township, NJ, Trenton, NJ, and Lemoyne, PA.
In 1958, she married J. Paul Burkhart II, Carlisle. Residing first in Camp Hill, PA, then in Carlisle, where she was a Deacon in the Second Presbyterian Church, Carlisle, later she joined Silver Spring Presbyterian Church, Mechanicsburg.
Kristin had a special love for children, was a loving mother, and a very kind and compassionate person. She enjoyed many hobbies, including folk art, interior decorating, painting, and music, but her primary love was spending time with her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Dr. J. Paul Burkhart II; four children, Kari Soffel, Bemus Point, NY, Karin Miller, Cheswick, PA, Dr. J. Paul Burkhart III, Columbus, OH and John Matthew Burkhart, Chautauqua, NY; a brother, Dr. Royce Johnson II, Rogers, AR and of Magagnosc, France; a sister, Jule McCormack, Fairview, PA and nine grandchildren. | JOHNSON, Kristin Norene (I40159)

Christian Hougen, 91, formerly of Rt. 2, Reedsville, died Tuesday at Holy Family Extended Care Facility, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Faith Lutheran Church, Valders. The Rev. Carl Peters will officiate with burial in Our Savior Cemetery, Valders.
Mr. Hougen was born July 23, 1884, in the Town of Liberty, son of the late Thorval and Julia Berge Hougen. He attended Liberty schools and was a farmer all his life. He married Etta Torrison Oct. 19, 1910, at Valders. She preceded him in death.
Survivors include a son Alton of Rt. 2, Reedsville; two daughters, Mrs. Ted (Ellen) Bieberitz, of Valders and Mrs. Lloyd (Verna Mae) Voigt, of Manitowoc; four sisters, Mrs. Jessie (Minnie) Flemming, of Frederick, Okla., Mrs. Mabel DeVall of the state of Washington, Mrs. Nora Torrison, of Manitowoc, Mrs. Henry (Gladys) Miller, of Milwaukee; nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
