Clifford M. Olson, 87, of Machesney Park, IL, passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at Riverbluff Nursing Home in Rockford. Clifford was born in Soldiers Grove, WI, to Odin and Clara Olson on October 10, 1936. Clifford enjoyed fishing, restoring old cars, snowmobiling, and playing card games. He loved his family very much, and was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his children, Randy Olson and Robin Olson; grandchildren, Stacy (Tracy) Young, Scott (Sarah) Olson, Jessica (David) Krabbe, and Hali Nichols; great-grandchildren, Autumn Anderson, Zackery Anderson, Devan Olson, Samuel Olson, Myah Krabbe, and Eliana Krabbe.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Olson; parents, Odin and Clara; son, Roy Olson; daughter-in-law, Kathy Olson.

Trudy Wasson (Sondrol)??Age 71, born May 25, 1938, in Minneapolis. Died December 28, 2009, at Methodist Hospital, St. Louis Park, MN from complications following heart surgery. Survived by husband, Boyd, daughter Julie (Pete) Baird, Plainfield, IL, sons Mark, Seattle, WA, and Eric (Janine), Cedar Rapids, IA. Grandchildren Duncan and Reilly Baird, and Justin and Kristin Wasson. Also her brothers Harold, Cedar Rapids, IA, and Iver, Jr. (Karen) Phoenix, AZ. Preceded in death by her parents Iver and Evelyn (Oas) Sondrol and her son, Tom.??Trudy was raised and completed high school in Cedar Rapids. While attending Iowa State University, she met and married Boyd, March 1, 1959. The next few years were busy with the arrival of three of her four children, all the while she ran a thriving dressmaking business from her home so she could be at home to raise her kids and help her husband through college.??After a trip to Norway, Trudy decided to learn Rosemaling (a decorative form of Norwegian oil painting) so that she could paint "something" for her Norwegian parents. Trudy not only learned, but excelled, winning the prestigious Vesterheim Gold Medal. She went on to author two books, numerous pattern designs, and teach this beautiful art form all across the country. Several of her pieces are in the museum.??In the 1980's, the real estate business beckoned. She became an agent, spending most of her 21 year career at Re/Max Results in Eden Prairie. Though a transplant to the area, she soon established herself as a dominant force in the market through unwavering determination and dedication to her clients. If Trudy was your realtor, you were taken care of...all the way.??In the early 2000's, Trudy took up quilting as a way to unwind from real estate. But as was her nature, dabbling, it was not. She began entering the Paducah quilt show, the grand-daddy of them all. She's had seven quilts in the show, winning 1st place for Traditional Wall two years back. Two of her quilts are now part of the National Quilt Museum's collection. She began Generations Quilt Patterns with her daughter in 2006 and has been designing ever since.??Memorial Service 11am Tuesday, January 5, with visitation one hour before at Faith Presbyterian Church, 12007 Excelsior Blvd., Minnetonka, MN.

SONDROL, Gertrude Emelie (Trudy) (I9168)

In the 1974 obit of Joseph Steffens, husband of Edrys LaFountain Steffens, she and her brother Dusty were listed as step-children.

In a “Card of Thanks” posted in the Bonners Ferry Herald on October 9, 1975, Mrs. Sally M. Holman thanked her aunts for a “surprise baby shower given me during my visit home.” The three aunts named were Mrs. Ruby LaFountain, Mrs. Vi Kestler, and Mrs. Edrys Steffens.

A brief mention of her and Wesley’s deaths appeared in the Bonners Ferry Herald on June 14, 1984. Funeral services were to be held on June 15th and the pair had died “earlier this week.”

In a “Card of Thanks” posted in the Bonners Ferry Herald on July 5, 1984, the family of Sally Holman thanks their dear friends for the kindness and love shown during the loss of Sally. The family signature was Edrys Steffens, Dusty Tenney, Brandy, Stormy, and Fawn, and Roy Koski and family. A similar card of thanks was posted in the Bonner County Daily Bee on the same day.

TENNEY, Sally Marie (I29481)

JANESVILLE-- Kenneth O. Nundahl, age 77, of 1456 S. Washington, passed away on Friday, June 10, 2005, at Mercy Hospital. He was born on Feb. 19, 1928 in Vernon Co. and was the son of Carl and Merle (Crook) Nundahl. Kenneth served in the US Army in Korea. He married Connie Skrede in 1954 in Viroqua, WI. Kenneth retired from Fairbanks Morse Co., in 1993, after having been employed there for 43 years. Ken loved collecting old miniature cars, watching TV, and doing crossword puzzles. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Connie; a son, Michael (Kristy) Nundahl of Beloit, WI; 3 daughters: Jacqueline Nundahl , Susan Olmsted and Kathy (Rick) Cole all of Janesville; 8 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Merlin Nundahl of Beloit and Donnie (Janus) Nundahl of Richland Center; 5 sisters: Eileen Mikkelson of Westby, WI, Marlene Carrel of Janesville, Norma Pierce of Onalaska, WI, Martha (Mel) Brewer of Janesville and Judy (Gene) Collins of Boaz, WI. He was preceded by his parents; 2 brothers, Ivan (Bubba) Nundahl and Selmer Nundahl; and a grandson, Jason Nundahl.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2005 at the SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER Funeral Home, with Rev Larry Kula officiating. Interment will be in the Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER Funeral Home.

Kenneth enlisted in the U.S. Army in Chicago on May 29, 1946.

In the 1951 city directory for Beloit, Wisconsin, Kenneth is a machinist for Fairbanks-Morse. He lives at 1711 Porter Avenue.

In the 1954 Beloit directory, he is still a machinist for Fairbanks-Morse but now he lives at 2120 Riverside Drive.

In the 1956 Janesville city directory, he is a machinist with Fairbanks-Morse and lives with his wife, Constance M, and brother Donald L, at 916 Mineral Point Avenue.

In the 1958 Janesville city directory, he is a machinist for Fairbanks-Morse. He and Constance M live at 1703 S Willard Avenue. Connie works for Glenoit Mills.

In the 1960 Janesville city directory, Kenneth and Constance live at 1456 S Washington. Kenneth is a machinist for Fairbanks-Morse in Beloit. Kenneth’s brother Merlin, a teacher in Beloit, lives at the same address.

NUNDAHL, Kenneth Obert (I223)

Jim Ellingboe passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 with his family beside him after a two-year struggle with lymphoma.

Jim was born in 1937 in Wilmington, Delaware and attended DuPont High School. Despite disliking school, he was precocious and curious, creating his own experiments at home and learning to take things apart and put them together again. He met with some success, winning first prize at the State Science Fair in Delaware (and second prize nationally), and achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. Jim attended Oberlin College and studied abroad in Geneva, Switzerland, followed by earning a Ph.D. in Biochemistry at Harvard Medical School. He worked as a biochemical researcher at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden where he met his wife of 46 years, Karin. They married in Stockholm in 1967 and had their first child, a daughter Randi, the following year. The young family soon moved to the U. S., first living in the San Diego area, and then settling in Massachusetts where their children Christopher and Anna were born. Jim directed research laboratories first at Boston City Hospital and then for 21 years at the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Research Center at McLean Hospital. As an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard, he worked with graduate students, many of whom kept in contact with him over the years as their careers unfolded. Later in his career, Jim served as the scientific editor of the magazines BioTechniques and Peptide Research, where he continued to make use of his extensive network in the research community.

Jim was a man of strong beliefs. These were borne out in his many community involvements as well as in his devoted care and support of family, friends, and colleagues. As a young man, he became a convinced Friend (Quaker) and registered as a conscientious objector. He was an active member of Acton Friends Meeting and served on the permanent board of the New England Yearly Meeting of Friends. His perspective was defined by a life-long curiosity, and in the tradition of his Norwegian farmer forebears, he was an intrepid do-it-yourself man. He enjoyed the never ending task of home improvement, insisting on completing most work by himself, and sharing these values and skills with his children. As a testament to his deep appreciation of nature, Jim served on the Littleton Conservation Commission and supported environmental protection organizations. He maintained a quiet friendship with the lonely swan of Matawanakee Lake, and always had binoculars available to enjoy and share the wonders of nature. Jim was an avid photographer of the natural world, especially during travels to Scandinavia and canoeing and camping trips in Maine. In Jim’s free time he indulged his hobby of genealogical research. He reestablished connections with his distant relations in Norway, and regularly corresponded and created family reunions with these relatives. He developed a large database of historical information, served as an information resource for many Ellingboe descendants, and attended and presented at gatherings of Norwegian heritage associations in the U.S. Midwest.

Jim is remembered with love and gratitude by his wife, three children, sister, three grandchildren, extended family and a wide circle of friends. His peaceful, humble, and loving nature will be deeply missed.

ELLINGBOE, James (I2303)

Jody Marie (Rostad) Gladson, 47, of Rochester, Minn., died Monday, Aug. 13, 2018. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 18 at Oakwood Cemetery, Rochester.
Jody Marie Rostad was born on May 17, 1971, in Rochester to Lyle and Karen (Wheeler) Rostad. After high school, she went on to become a home health aide. On Feb. 14, 1997, she was united in marriage to David Bruce Gladson of Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Jody is survived by her mother, Karen of Rochester, Minn., and mother-in-law, Lois (Shike) Gladson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a brother, Les (April) Rostad of Rochester, Minn.; two brothers-in-law, Steve (Deb) Gladson and Larry (Julie) Gladson, both of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; nieces and nephews, Sonya, Freya and Bjorn Rostad of Rochester, Minn., Lindsay (Ben) Blood and children Kaelynne and Ryker of Marion, Kim (Nick) Kray and children Jackson and Nora of Olathe, Kan., Matt (Erica) Gladson of Palo and Marc (Carolyn) Gladson of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David; father, Lyle; and father-in-law, Richard.

ROSTAD, Jody Marie (I39954)

Joseph (Joe) Docken, Jr., age 88, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2022 at the Northfield Retirement Community, with his family at his side.

Joe, son of Joseph and Lillian Docken, was born in Northfield on June 26, 1933. He married Lorna (Meyer) on June 30, 1962. He raised and nurtured a family of five, tended his family’s farm homestead and served the Solor Lutheran Church community for decades. He was passionate about baseball, following the Minnesota Twins, playing baseball on the DRS league and coaching Webster Town & Country. He was a dedicated worker, engaged in farming and Fredrickson Cement. As stated by his teacher, Ruben Hovland, in 1951, “Joe displays a good clean character. His thoughts, words and actions are always a compliment to his home and family.” He displayed his character until his last day.

Joe is survived by his wife, Lorna; daughters, Lorie (Bob Batyko) and Jody (Darren) Curl; sons, Kevin (Nada), Jim (Tiffany) and Mark; ten grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and his twin sister, JoAnn (Meinke). He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Nordis (Meinke) and Jerome.

DOCKEN, Joseph Lawrence (I1726)

Larry D. McKittrick, age 68, of Warrens, Wisconsin, passed away Thursday, January 04, 2018, at his home. He was born April 25, 1949, to Arland and Dorothy (Ekum) McKittrick.

He was united in marriage to Sara (Hanson); together they had 3 sons, Ryan, Todd and Kyle. Larry enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, attending a wrestling tournament, or spending time with his friends and family.

He is survived by his mother, Dorothy, his sons, Ryan of Elroy, Todd of Ashland and Kyle (Sara Niebuhr) of Tomah, grandchildren, Nolan McKittrick, Colin McKittrick, Brooklyn McKittrick, Micayla Williams, Ethan Mckuen, Brennan McKittrick, Logan McKittrick, Alexis Hedding, Ellie McKittrick, Henry McKittrick, a brother, Tom McKittrick and a sister, Ellen (Bob) Miller, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara, twin sister Arlana, grandchild Dylan, and his father, Arland.

MCKITTRICK, Larry D (I840)

Larry Duane Sandmann, b. ca 1954, lived in Duluth in 2013. That Larry apparently was a guitar player for several bands and was nicknamed Lefty. (He played the guitar with his left hand.) He suffered a debilitating stroke in March of 2012 that left him in a wheelchair and unable to use the right side of his body.

Of South Range, Wisconsin, at the time of Florence’s death in April of 2017. His kidney cancer prevented him from attending her funeral.

Adopted by Florence and Ira when he was four years old.

Attended New Prague High School. He would have graduated with its class of 1971.

Larry had had surgery for kidney cancer and apparently was recovering, but something went wrong. Larry had a wife. They had been married for about 5 years.
