He was named after his older half-brother who was born in 1796 and died at the age of a few months.

The bygdeboks (Vang A, p. 724, and, again, on Vang B, p. 200 and p. 203) thrice confuses him with his older half-brother of the same name who died young.

Vang B, p. 203, says Nils was a husmann on Plassen, NiPlassé, of Remmen until he moved up to Stølen (65/3) after land changes in 1865.

Vang B, p. 200, says that he came from 87/ Vesle-Jøvne.

She seems to have married Knut Brekke and lived in Wang Twp, Renville County.

In the 1900 census he was jordeier og husmand on Sakshaugplads (Oldre) in Inderøen. The household consisted of Elling, b. 1829, Bergithe, b. 1839, and Marie Ellingsdatter, b. 1878.
