In the 1910 census, he and Ingeborg lived in Esmond Twp, Benson County, North Dakota. She is shown as having had three children, all three still living. It’s her 2nd marriage and his 3rd.

In the 1930 census, he and his wife and son lived in Oakland, California. He was a salesman for Nun Bush Shoes.

In the 1920 census, he is probably the Conrad Bergman who is a farm laborer on the Chris Peterson farm in Richfield. That Conrad is 23 years old and was born in Minnesota to parents who were born in Sweden.

In the 1930 census, he is a patient at the Veterans’ Hospital at Fort Snelling.

In the 1940 census, he is still a patient (”inmate”) at the Minnesota State Soldiers Home in Minneapolis. He is shown as divorced.

Registered for the draft on June 5, 1917, in St. Croix County. He was a farmer in River Falls and had a wife and child (for which he claimed exemption from the draft). He was described as tall and of medium build with light brown eyes and black hair.

In the 1940 census, Harry, Myrtle, and Harriet were living in Clifton Twp, Pierce County, Wisconsin.

At the time of his registration for the World War II draft, he lived in Eau Galle, in St. Croix County, Wisconsin although he gave his mailing address as Rout #1, Woodville, Wisconsin. He gave Armond Delander of River Falls as the person who would always know his address. He was self-employed.

His obit was in the Chicago Tribune on 11 July 1987. He was a WWII vet.

In the 1910 census, he is living with his brother Alfred and family, widowed father Anders, and sister Alma Mabel in Trondhjem Twp, Otter Tail County, just a few farms away from the Ostlund farm. He may also have been caught in the 1910 census as the John A. Toso, “helper” on the Conrad Toso farm in Benson County, North Dakota.

He registered for the draft on June 5, 1917, in Trondhjem as John Toso of Rothsay where he is married and is a self-employed farmer. He is described as of medium height and slender build with gray eyes and light hair.

In the 1920 census, John and his family farmed in Trondhjem Twp, Otter Tail County.

In the 1930 census, John and his family farmed in Foxhome Twp, Wilkin County. In that census, all nine children were still living on the farm.

In the 1940 census, he and his wife and their five youngest children farmed on a rented farm in Orwell Twp, Otter Tail County. Five years earlier, all of them had lived in Wilkin County. John had a 7th grade education, Anna had an 8th grade education.
