Edwin was still a widower at the time of the 1910 census (April 20th). In that census, he and his children were living on a farm next door to the John A. Thompson farm. The family consisted of Edwin P., 42, Bertha M., 11, son Jurl O., 9, Laura C., 7, and Ole P., 5. Edwin is not a farmer, however, he is shown as the manager of the telephone company. Living next door to Edwin was Ole P. Ruh, presumably Edwin’s father.

Still a widower in the 1920 census. He is living in Lakeville with Juel, Laura, Ole, and a 21 year-old female “recruit” named Clara Lenhart who apparently works as a bookkeeper at the phone company. “Edward” is still the manager of the telephone company.

In the 1930 census, he is still a widower, no longer employed, and living as a lodger with the Alfred Markusen family (his daughter and son-in-law) in Lakeville.
