Birth record shows her parents unmarried and specifies Kjøs as the farm for both of them. Her baptismal sponsors were Knud Kjøs, Anders Gunderson Gjevre, Guri Køngslien, Sigri Andersdatter Kjøs, and Marit Østensdatter Berge. Could not find Iver/Ivar in 93-94/.

In the 1865 census, she is probably the 21 year-old Berith Iversdatter working as a tjenestepige on Endre Olsen’s Lien søndre farm.

Her connection to Johannes Knudsen Haugen has conflicting information and the bygdeboks aren’t helpful. Among the conflicts, for example, the Bredeson Family Tree calls her Berith J Knutson, daughter of Aaste and someone named Knudt Evenson. The Bredeson Family Tree does have (most of) Berith’s birth date right. Melvin Haugen’s tree shows her as Berit Iversdatter Gjevre and born in Vang 8 Feb 1845.

In the 1910 census, she is Berith Knutson, 65, now a widow and is head-of-household for the farm in Split Rock Twp, Minnehaha County. Living with her is her daughter, Martha Johnson, 25, and sons Andrew, 24, Otto, 22, and Iver, 29, all with the surname Johnson and all shown as single. Also living with the family is Mary J Tvedt, 39, a boarder. Berith still claims 8 children, 7 still living. So for some reason, the children living with her have adopted the surname Johnson.

In the 1920 census, Berith is a 75 year-old widow living on the Split Rock Twp farm headed up by her son Andrew Johnson, age 35. Also in the household is Martha E Johnson, 37, Iver W Johnson, 39, and Aaster K. Evenson, 96, grandmother. Berith is shown to have come to the U.S. in 1872. Aaste is shown as coming to the U.S. in 1867.
