The June 14, 1954, edition of the FFDJ notes that Mrs. Clarence Lyngstad served the cake at the bridal shower for Mrs. Kenneth Bixon (Corinne Olson). {The newlyweds’ names were spelled incorrectly in the article. They were Kenneth Leroy Biksen and Corrine Merie Olson.}
In the summer of 1960, when the engagement of Deland and Sharon was announced in the Fergus Falls newspaper, she was referred to as Mrs. Clarence Lyngstad of Encino, California. At the time of the wedding in December, she had moved to Fergus Falls.
Doris Violet Lyngstad, 92, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Monday, May 18, 2009, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls.
She was born May 14, 1917, in Rothsay, Minnesota, the daughter of John and Anna (Ostlund) Toso. She grew up on her family farm and attended country school through the eighth grade. She did waitress work for a time. She worked at Lake Region Hospital for many years, and after retiring from there, she worked at the Otter Tail Nursing Home.
On June 29, 1946, she married Clarence Lyngstad in Norfolk, Virginia. Over the years they lived in many places, including in California and Nebraska. They later lived on South Turtle Lake for 20 years.
Doris was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls, and the “Art of the Lakes” and VFW.
She enjoyed painting beautiful pictures – especially old farmsteads, which she would sell. She also made sure each of her children had a painting. She loved to bake, and made lefsa for everyone. Her gardens were always large and surrounded by beautiful flowers.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Clarence; four brothers, Lloyd, Marvin, Clayton and Orin Toso; and two sisters, Jeanette (Clarence) Johnson and Jean Rix.
Survivors include her children: LaDonna Olson of Alexandria, Deland (Sharon) Bloch of Savage, and Lynette (Roger) Hutchins of Fergus Falls; 11 grandchildren: Kim (Carol) Olson, Kathryn (Duane) Begin, Kory Olson, Karla (Terry) Pavek, Kristopher Olson, Chad (Cynthia) Bloch, Jeffory (Lisa) Bloch, Kari (Mike) Pankey, Tyson (Joanna) Bloch, and Jonathan and Jamie Hutchins; 21 great-grandchildren: Sarah Olson, Mellissa Mrozek, Jessica Stroman, Breanna, Kayla, and Jenna Begin, Ryan Parks and Alexander Pavek, Heather and Hallie Hutchins, and Nick Anderson, Robert (Krista) Bloch, Brandon and Christian Bloch, Brittney and Brayden Bloch, Grace, Kathrine and Joe Pankey, and Charlie and Hailey Bloch; three great-great-grandchildren: Shelby and Sydney Stroman and Cierra Mrozek; two sisters, Evelyn (Leo) Hennen of Morris and Joyce (Ray) Doschadis of Graceville; one brother, John (Tami) Toso of Sun City, AZ; and three sisters-in-law: Mildred, Helen, and Evelyn Toso.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 11 a.m. Friday, May 22, 2009 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls
