23241 Virginia "Ginnie" Ertel, age 84 of Richland Center, died Monday, March 9, 2009. Virginia "Ginnie" (Sime) Ertel, 84, passed away Monday, March 9, 2009 at the Richland Medical Center in Richland Center.

She was married to the late Kermit Sime for 25 years and together they farmed in Crawford County.

Upon Kermit’s death, she married Bill Ertel, and they were married for 37 years. They lived in Viroqua and Tempe, Arizona.

Ginnie will always be remembered for her artistic skills, her oil paintings adorn the walls of many homes in South West Wisconsin.

Survivors include two daughters: Bonnie Brockway of Tempe, Ariz., and Carol “Cookie” Damman (special friend Rick Bury) of La Crosse; one son, K. Terry Sime (Kathy) of Richland Center; two step sons: Gary Ertel (Doris) of Hillpoint Wis., and John Ertel (Gail) of Custer, S.D.; one sister, Ruth (Jim) Curtis of Ontario; and two Brothers: David Dowell (Charlotte) of Iowa, and Paul, unknown; seven grandchildren: Paul Brockway of Arizona, Vicki Bankes (Terry) of Ferryville, Wis., Mark Brockway (Lorraine) of Port St. Lucia, Fla., Bethany Beightol (Tom) of Brown Deer, Wis., JoEllen Zitzner (Tim) of Viroqua, Wis., Bradley Sime (Karla) of Holmen, Wis., Kelcie Fortney (Hassan) of Viroqua, Wis.; three step-grandchildren: Jason Ertel, Jarrod Ertel, and Jocelynn Wilson; 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in Death by her parents; her first husband, Kermit; her second husband, Bill; one brother, John; one sister, Shirley.

23245 Virginia was born and raised in Wisconsin, but moved to Missouri after her marriage, and then to Englewood, Florida, when her husband, Robert C. Roussin, retired. She was the loving mother of Carla D. Maessen, Robert C. Roussin (Georgia), and Rebecca J. Stevenson (Gary).

As the oldest girl in a family with 14 children, Virginia took on adult responsibilities at an early age. She went to work at age 13 as a maid, and later worked in several shoe factories. She was a creative seamstress and skilled crafter, Sunday School teacher, choir member, Lutheran Women's Missionary League member and leader. She enjoyed playing bridge and golfing with her friends at the Rotonda Golf Club. She and her husband were founding members of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Englewood.

In addition to her husband Robert, Mrs. Roussin was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer Birdell and Bessie (Mathison) Johnson, six brothers (Emery, Gordon, Kenneth, Warren, Darold, and Ronald Johnson) and three sisters Marjorie Moehring, Eileen Pietrowski, and June Sannes, and well as her son-in-law Harley Maessen and her grandson Mark D. Maessen.

Mrs. Roussin is survived by her three children; three grandchildren -Paul G. Maessen, Matthew Stevenson (wife Elizabeth Zimmerman) , and Hope Manion (husband Thomas Manion); and three great-grandchildren -Jordan H. Maessen, Jane R. Manion, and Saoirse A. Manion. She is also survived by one brother, Robert C. Johnson, and three sisters Marilyn Pagel, Carol Mueller, and Nancy Wunderlich, as well as numerous nephews and nieces and their children.

An obit:

Sgt. Kenneth L. Morkrid, 31, formerly of Viroqua, fell to his death Saturday, Feb. 14, while participating in a cliff-scaling exercise at Ft. Bragg, N.C. He was a paratrooper with a Green Beret , Company C of the 6th Special Forces Group at Ft. Bragg. Sgt. Morkrid entered service April 17, 1958, and had served three years in Germany and two tours of duty in Vietnam.
He was born to M. and Mrs. Martin Morkrid Jan. 20, 1939, in Viroqua and graduated from Viroqua High School. Surviving are his widow, Karen, formerly of Readstown; three daughters, Cynthia, Teresa and Kimberly, and one son, Kenneth Jr., all of Ft. Bragg; his parents of Viroqua; one brother, Earl of Viroqua; four sisters, Mrs. Harlan Johnson of Viroqua, Mrs. James McCarter of Kenosha, Mrs. Theodore Larson of Westby and Mrs. Robert Kelsey of Viola; grandparents, Mrs. Susie Morkrid of Viroqua and Mr. And Mrs. Harvey Fish of Viroqua.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Church of Christ at Readstown. A Ft. Bragg chaplin and the Rev. George Weber will officiate. Burial will be in the Readstown Cemetery.
