Wayne French passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on December 23, 2022. He lived his life with joy, humor, and love until his final day at the age of 96 years.

Wayne will be lovingly remembered by his children Cheryl (Frank) VanDornick, Doug (Sylvia) French, Laurie (Jim) Hill, Sandy (Cindy) French, Sharon French, and Dianne Clarke; fourteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and his dear friend Margaret Hall. Wayne will also be remembered by his brother-in-law Lorne (Marion) Ellestad; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Wayne was predeceased by Violet, his wife of 40 years; son-in-law Greg Clarke; his parents Alexander and Grace; his twin brother Hazen; and his three sisters Shirley, Caroline and Isabelle.

Wayne grew up on a farm near Dinant and lived all of his adult life in Camrose. He enjoyed thirty-eight years as a teacher, most as principal of Sifton School. He loved dancing, golfing, woodworking, crossword puzzles, playing pool, and spending time with family and friends. He was a long-time member of the United Church and enjoyed ushering and reading verses. Wayne could not say enough about how much he enjoyed his home and his friends at Brookside, where he lived for the past eleven years.

Thank you to Rachel, Donica, and caregivers from Camrose Home Care for your professional and compassionate care for dad over the past months, and to the staff and residents of Brookside for your friendship and caring.

A Funeral Service was held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 7, 2023, at the CityLights Church, 4920 48 Street Camrose, with Rev. Brian Hunter and Rev. Helen Reed officiating.

If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions in Wayne's memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Alberta Lung Association, the Cross Cancer Institute, or the Camrose United Church.

Wayne Garlie, age 83, of Park Rapids, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Crystal Brook Senior Living in Park Rapids MN.

Wayne Garlie was born on November 1, 1939, in Mahnomen MN, to Adolph and Marion (Perra) Garlie. He grew up in Northfield MN and graduated high school there. After graduation he attended college in River Falls WI and later served in the US Army. Wayne married Mary Johnston in 1967. He worked in sales and real estate followed by 17 years as Dairy Queen owner/operator in Two Rivers WI. After his retirement, Wayne lived in Arizona and Florida during the winter. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, traveling (especially out west and in Mexico), and reading; he was particularly interested in WWII.

Wayne is survived by his children, Sarah Garlie Jones of Orlando Fl, Stephen Garlie and wife Jennifer of Baldwin ND, Brian Garlie and wife Tera of Park Rapids MN as well as grandchildren: Jack, Ben, Kate, Zack, Sam, Mercedes and Ethan, as well as siblings: David Garlie, Marianne (Garlie) Moe, Ginger Garlie, and Tom Garlie. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Steven and Jerry.

Wayne H. Hafeman, 81, Luxemburg, passed away peacefully, Friday morning, November 15, 2024. He was born in Algoma on January 7, 1943, to the late Harold H. and Helen M. (Knutson) Hafeman. On June 12, 1965, he married Priscilla Havel at St. Peter Church in Lincoln. She preceded him in death on June 15, 2007. Wayne served his country in the United States Army from 1961-1964.

Wayne briefly worked at Algoma Hardwoods, and later was employed as a law enforcement officer with the Kewaunee County Sheriffs Department until his retirement.

Wayne's enjoyments included watching football, cheering on the Chicago Cubs, golfing, and spending time with his grandchildren. Wayne, strong in his faith, was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Algoma.

Survivors include one daughter, Karen Miller, Green Bay; one daughter-in-law, Patti (Fiancé Don Birmingham) Hafeman, New Franken; five grandchildren Casi Hafeman, Kyle (Fiancée Amber) Hafeman, Claire Hafeman, Miranda Miller, Riley Miller; two great grandsons, Harlo and Hayes Hafeman; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Barry Hafeman, Mary Jo Hafeman, Linda Teske; one sister Beverly Neinas; Havel family members, Jerome Havel, Joyce La Crosse, Jo Ann Havel; Nieces and nephews further survive.

Wayne was preceded in death by his wife Priscilla; his son Scott Hafeman; his two brothers, Dennis Hafeman, Mark Hafeman; one sister-in-law, Jane Hafeman; one brother-in-law Jerry Neinas; Havel family members, Bob Havel, Evelyn Havel, Dale La Crosse; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Arthur and Louise Havel.

Friends may call between 9:30 - 11:30 am on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at The Shrine of the Good Shephard Mausoleum, Bay Settlement. Funeral service 11:45 am, Tuesday with Pastor John Moll officiating. Entombment to follow with complete military honors provided by the American Legion Ralph Kline Post 262, Luxemburg.

Wayne K. Bestor, 90, of Houston, MN died on Friday, October 14, 2022, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Wayne Kay Bestor was born on Sunday, December 13, 1931, in Bristol Township of Fillmore County, Minnesota. He was raised on the family farm near Granger, Minnesota. He was a 1950 graduate of Harmony High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1954. On September 10, 1955, Wayne was united in marriage to Donna Hermanson. He worked for IBM in Rochester, Minnesota, for several years. Wayne then attended Coleman Technical School in La Crosse, Wisconsin, where he received his certification as a mechanical draftsman. He then worked for Trane Company as a draftsman for 26 years until his retirement in January of 1994. In his retirement, Wayne enjoyed golfing, woodworking, making gun stocks, hunting, taxiing his grandchildren around, and often visiting his parents in Granger.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Donna; five children: Rosie (Kevin) Paulson, Brad Bestor, Vicki (Grant) Olson, Tammy (Greg) Boldt, and Stacy Vix, all of Houston; twelve grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren with two more on the way; five great-great-grandchildren; six siblings: Wanda, Georgia, Verlaine, Dallas (Connie), Cheryl (Tom), and Susie; brother-in law, Roger Hanson; sister-in-law, Naomi Wangen; brother-in-law who Wayne considered a brother, Ben Hermanson; and by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four children: Allan and three who died in infancy; and by two siblings: Carylann and Garth.

Wayne M. Lokken, age 81, of Lakeland, FL, formerly of Bonita Springs, FL, passed away peacefully at home on September 9, 2020 from COPD and bladder cancer. He was under the care of VITAS Hospice.

We don’t know if she was born in Aitkin County or in Superior. Some of Ancestry’s family trees say that she was born in Aitkin County but in 1897. SSDI gives her birth date as 7 Jul 1896. The 1900 census has her as age 3, born in Minnesota in July of 1896.

Called Beda in the 1910 census. Living with her parents in the 1900, 1905, and 1910 censuses.

In the 1920 census, she (as Gyda) and her sister Nellie were boarders with the Hans and Rachel Hanson family in Minneapolis. Nellie was a stenographer for a rubber tire company. Gyda was a saleswoman in a retail grocery store.

In the 1930 census, she and her husband and daughter lived at 4409 17th Avenue South in Minneapolis.

In the 1940 census, she and her daughter lived in Aitkin. She was still shown as married but there is not a husband present. She had no occupation and no income in 1939. She had had an 8th grade education.

She was Mrs. Gyda Tollefson of Minneapolis in Rudolf’s obituary.

Gyda’s obit also mentions a Bertha Murphy as a sister (as does Rudolf’s obit and, later, Nellie’s). We have no idea who that Bertha is or how she relates to the rest of the family.

Lived with Leo Don and Myrtle prior to their divorce. He was living with Myrtle and Patricia in the 1950 census. At that time, he was a patrolman for the “state police.” He is shown as never married.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m., Friday, March 2, 2001, in Bateman-Carroll Funeral Chapel for Floyd E. Boyle, who died Feb. 25, 2001, at age 75.

Mr. Boyle was born April 23, 1925, in Portland, where he lived all his life. He graduated from Parkrose High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a patrolman for the Oregon State Police and later was a manager with Exhaust Specialties before becoming owner of Master Muffler Inc. He married Bernadine Schnase in the 1940s; she died in 1998.

Survivors include; sons, Tom, David and Patrick; sisters, Collette Bassett, Colleen Ledbetter and Patricia Brown; and five grandchildren.
