21521 The JCC record (copy in Manitowoc public library) says that Knud Sandness died on 8 April 1895 and was born on 22 June 1829.

Knud's brother Tosten had immigrated in 1849, via Wisconsin, to Decorah, Iowa. That Tosten was the father of Anne Sandness (#4574).

The Thompson (Sandness) family emigrated in 1852 via Quebec. On steamship Atlantic when it sank in Lake Erie. They survived the sinking of the steamship Atlantic in Lake Erie on their way to Wisconsin. In 1852, Knud Thompson (Sandness) (1829-1929) and Anne Torgeirsdatter Strande (1819-1889) arrived in Wisconsin with two children. Five more children were born to them in Wisconsin.

Lived in Two Rivers Twp in 1855. Worked for Two Rivers Tannery in 1856. He was farming in Gibson Twp by 1870.

Knud Thompson served in the Civil War. Enlisted as private in Co. H, 22nd Wisconsin Infantry during Civil War, 5/01/1865 to 17/05/65. Transferred to 3rd Regiment.

His surname was listed as Windingstad or Vindingstad in Church Book records. His birth and christening records are found in Slidre Kirkebok No. 2, p. 329, Births, and on microfilm reel of Ø. Slidre Kirkebok, p. 336, reel # 0125644. His vaccination record is found in Slidre Kirkebok No. 4, p. 186, Vaccinations, #81, 6 Dec. 1843. His confirmation record is in Slidre Kirkebok No. 4 (Hegge, Rogne, Volbu), 1831-1848, p. 115, Confirmations,#37, 27 July 1845. Marriage record is in Ø. Slidre Kirkebok No. 1 (1849-1874), p. 171, Marriages. Emigration date of 1 April 1852 listed in Ø. Slidre Kirkebok No. 1, p. 241, #43), with wife Anne Torgersd. (#44), daughter Ingeborg (#45) and son Thomas (#46). Name on emigration record is Knud Thomassen Vindingstad. (Statsarkivet, Hamar)

Jim Ellingboe says: The Thompson (Sandness) family came from the adjoining {to Vang i Valdres} county of East Slidre. Last year I visited the ruins of the house on the farm Sannes (Sandness) on Windingstad where they lived in before leaving Norway.

Named Knut Sandness in burial record. Knud and Anne are buried in the Jambo Creek Cemetery. There is some confusion regarding the inscription on the gravestone of both Knud and Anne Thompson. "HUSTRUTIL " means "wife of". A separate entry for Anne based on Jambo Creek Church records is mistakenly read as 7 Dec. 1889, whereas it should be 1 Dec. 1889 and the age should be 71, not 78. This is the same as the information on the stone, i.e., not a separate person. Knud is listed in the Jambo Creek Church burial records as "Knud Sandness".
THOMPSON (WINDINGSTAD) (SANDNESS) (STRANDE), Knud (I2355)

21522 The Johnson Family Tree on Ancestry.com has Ila dying 23 Dec 1978, no location given. This tree lists Ila twice, with the same death date, but with birth dates as 15 July 1911 and about 1913. Another version of the Johnson Family Tree (same owner) uses only the 15 Jul 1911 date of birth for Ila.

The SSDI records this death as Ila Smith, last residence Whittier, California. Her Social Security number had been issued in California and she was born 15 Jul 1911. The California Death Index records this death as Ila J Smith, Los Angeles County, no mother’s maiden name shown.

In the 1940 census, she is Ila Searing, a 28 year-old widow living with her widowed mother “Celina” in Huntington Park. “Celina” is a saleslady in a retail dry goods establishment and Ila is a “new worker.”
JOHNSON, Ila (I16886)

21523 The Johnson Family Tree on Ancestry.com lists her as Selina Elizabeth, born in Mount Pleasant in Sanpete County, Utah, on 4 Jan 1886.

She is Selina E in the 1910 census. In that census, she is shown as having had 4 children, 3 still living.

In the 1940 census, she is the widow “Celina” Johnson living with her daughter Ila in Huntington Park. “Celina” is a saleslady in a retail dry goods establishment.

She lived at 1064 West 42nd Street in Los Angeles in September of 1948 when she applied for a headstone for her son’s grave.

The Johnson Family Tree on Ancestry.com lists another child of Ole and Selina: Elwin Johnson, b. 9 Jun 1914 and d. 2 Jan 2002 in Ord, Nebraska. Another family tree of the same name and with the same owner, does not list Elwin as a child of Ole and Selina. No such child is listed in the 1920 or 1930 censuses.
THALMAN, Selina Elizabeth (I4221)

21524 The Johnson Family Tree, among others on Ancestry, has his parents as Nils Aarlien Syverson (1842-1921) and Agnethe Monson (1844-1933). That is not true, as the 1880 census shows.

In the 1910 census, he is Ben Syverson, a farm laborer living with his family in Farmington Twp, La Crosse County, Wisconsin. He is farm laborer “working out.”

In his 1918 draft registration, he is Bernt Severson of Ettrick in Trempealeau County, Wisconsin.
SYVERSON, Bernt (Ben) (I34351)

21525 The Johnsons’ only daughter, named Gwendolyn, is listed in the 1920 census as five months old.

In the 1930 census, the daughter named Gwendolyn is 6 years old and Maggie B is 10 years old.

The information presented here for Gwendoyn is from the Maurine Anderson Family Tree on Ancestry.com.

Gwen and Phillip had four children.

Her obit from the Provo newspaper, included in her Find A Grave entry, created by Connor:

Gwen Johnson Christensen passed away in Provo, Utah on April 16, 2007. She was born September 1, 1919, in Sigurd, Utah, to Joseph B. and Milda Dastrup Johnson. On June 19, 1941, she married Phillip V. Christensen in New Orleans, Louisiana. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.

Gwen was born with a unquenchable thirst for knowledge and an ardent love of reading. She enjoyed school and took particular pleasure in drama. In grade school she recruited her friends to portray Tarzan and Jane from the treetops. In junior high school she wrote and produced her first play and continued to act, write and produce throughout high school. She worked her way through college and graduated from Brigham Young University with high honors. Completing a double major in English, Speech and Dramatic Arts, she also obtained a teaching degree. She met her husband-to-be, Phil, while they were both acting in plays.

As a young bride during World War II, Gwen worked in New Orleans at the Port of Embarkation. Since she had acted in plays all her life, she possessed a remarkable memory and was once investigated by a major in the Army as a spy because she had unintentionally memorized long numbers and secret codes. Imagine the major's surprise when he learned that the FBI already had a full dossier on Gwen since she was married to an FBI agent.

In her spare time, Gwen continued acting, presenting a three-act play in the French Quarter. After living and working in Indiana and New Jersey, Phil and Gwen were transferred to Los Angeles, California. They then moved to Utah so Phil could take over the family law business. By this time Gwen had begun a new role in life, that of a mother to a son and later three daughters.

People were Gwen's passion, and she loved serving others whether it was offering a needed shoulder to cry on or sponsoring families from a foreign country. As a member of The LDS Church, Gwen was Relief Society President many times, her first experience when she was in her early twenties. She completed a stake mission and two missions with her husband: one in Greece, where they served as international missionaries and one to Missouri, where they were Directors of the Independence Visitors' Center. She served as a temple worker in the Provo LDS Temple for many years and was active in the PTA all during her children's school years.

She was a wonderful, loving mother to one son, Bryce Christensen (wife Elizabeth), and three daughters; Mrs. Scott (Betty) Briggs, Mrs. William (Ann) Bunker and Mrs. Michael (Mary) Patterson. She was also loved and will be sorely missed by fifteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Dennis (Beth) Bradshaw and was preceded in death by a brother, Hugh Johnson.
JOHNSON, Gwendolyn (I4591)

21526 The Jorgenson Family Tree has his parents born in Aust-Agder. JORGENSON, Jens Theodore (I37811)

21527 The July 25, 1908 edition of the Northfield News mentioned that a son was born to William and Sadie.

Shown as unnamed baby boy on his birth certificate and the first child born to his parents.

In the 1927 Minneapolis city directory, he is probably the Lloyd Ellingboe, student, residing at 513 Washington Avenue, S E.

In the 1928 directory, he was a student living at 406 17th Avenue, S E.

Lloyd was single and living at home at the time of the 1930 census. He was a deliveryman for a furniture store.

In the 1940 census, he and Lucille and Thomas lived in Crystal Falls, Michigan. He was a bookkeeper for the Iron County Road Commissioner, a job which earned him $1800 the year before. Lloyd had had two years of college, Lucille was a high school graduate.

In the 1950 census, he and Lucille and their two sons lived in Crystal Falls. He was an accountant at the office of the county road commissioner.
ELLINGBOE, Lloyd Wilhelm (I3331)

21528 The June, 1894, birth date in the 1900 census is impossible because the immigration records suggest that her mother didn’t arrive in the U.S. until August of 1894.

Not listed with her parents in the 1895 Minnesota state census.

Shown in the 1900 census but not in the 1905 state census or the 1910 federal census.

Anna would have been buried at the Dorris cemetery.
GUSTAD, Anna (I2292)

21529 The Kari Svendsdatter living with these parents in the 1865 census was 3 years old, suggesting she was born in 1863.

dwfrench1 confirms this with the dates shown here. He calls her Kari Svendsdatter Vaarum.
HEDALEN, Kari Svendsdatter (I12702)

21530 The Knickerbocker/Curtis Family Tree calls her Myrtle Ella Curtis, b. 28 Nov 1898 in Decorah, Winneshiek County, Iowa, and d. 26 Mar 1978. The SSDI has a Myrtle Meyer, b. 30 Nov 1898, d. Mar 1978, last residence in St. James, Watonwan County, Minnesota. The MHS death index has her middle name as Alvina.

In the 1940 census, the widow Myrtle Meyer lives in St. James, Minnesota, with her two children. They live in the same house in which they had lived in 1935. Myrtle is a janitoress in public restrooms. She is a high school graduate.
CURTIS, Myrtle Alvina (I20965)
