The day of her birth, according to the 1866 confirmation record for Brandval, appears to be either 7 Apr, 17 Apr, or 27 Apr. That same record spells her surname as Brandvold, her native farm.

The records of the Norway Lake Lutheran churches in Kandiyohi County show that Julia came to Norway Lake in 1883.

As Julia Brandval, she is living in the Knudt Sondrol household in the 1885 state census.

In the 1910 census, she was a widow living with her daughter and with her two step-sons, Ole and Martin. Julia had had 2 children, only 1 still living.
