21013 Sylven "Sid" Kvale passed away on Dec. 13, 2009 at the Bob Stump VAMC Hospice Unit in Prescott, Arizona.

He was born March 2, 1923 in Joice, Iowa, the son of Oliver and Esther Kvale. Sid was married to the love of his life, Betty. Together they shared many years of love and memories.

Sid served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps and was a WWII veteran who was honorably discharged as a Sergeant.

He worked for 25 years as a salesman in the chemical field for Pennwalt Corp. Sid was the manager of a creamery in Houston, Minnesota, and was a salesman at Vista Del Lago, each for 10 years. He was a member of Prescott Elks Lodge #330 and the VFW for 39 years. Sid belonged to and attended the American Lutheran Church in Prescott.

He is survived by wife, Betty, of Prescott; daughter, Pamela and son-in-law Jeff, of Ogden, Utah; grandchildren, Brian and Katy Paulson and Heather and Erik Kvale; brother, Basil Kvale, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Esther; brother, Orvis Kvale; and his son, Craig Kvale.

21014 Sylvia Gladys Flom, 89, of Cannon Falls, died Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at Angels Care Center, Cannon Falls.

Sylvia was born January 2, 1921 in Wanamingo, Minnesota the daughter of Jens and Olavia (Finne) Erie. She was raised and attended country school near Wanamingo. Sylvia was united in marriage to Ole Flom on October 28, 1939 in Dennison and made their home near Dennison. She was a homemaker and helped her husband on the farm. She also worked part time for the Mattress Factory in Kenyon. They moved to Northfield and there Sylvia worked for Carleton College as a housekeeper retiring in 1986. While still working at the college, Ole and Sylvia moved back to Dennison. Ole died September 11, 1992 and after her husband died, moved to Cannon Falls to be closer to her daughters.

Sylvia enjoyed gardening, sewing quilts and baking cookies. She also enjoyed fishing, playing cards, music and could play the piano by ear. Ole and Sylvia liked to dance at events and take the family to "free show night" in Dennison every Wednesday night. Sylvia always had a camera with her and took many pictures of her family to look back on and treasure.

She is survived by two daughters, Donna Husbyn of Cannon Falls; Shirley (and Craig) Husbyn of Cannon Falls; three sons Tom Flom of Taylor Falls; Stewart (and Zo Ann) Flom of Cumberland, WI; Donald Flom of Wrenshall; two brothers, Louis Erie of Red Wing; Sanford Erie of Red Wing; two sisters. Oretta Nelson of Red Wing; Ione (and John) Irvin of Red Wing; two sisters-in-law, Collette Flom of Kenyon; Arlene Flom of Mankato; 17 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four brothers, Ray, Jim, Joe, Kenneth and two sisters, Mayme and Agnes.
