Stella A. Cordes passed away peacefully at her home in Baytown, Texas, early Sunday, May 6, 2012, nine days shy of her 94th birthday. She was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, on May 15, 1918, to Frank Anast and Georgia Souter Anast. Mrs. Cordes grew up in the Chicago area and worked as a beautician in her early years. After her husband, Lester, retired, they moved to Minocqua, Wisconsin. Mrs. Cordes was a loving and nurturing woman who chose her final career as a homemaker. She was an avid golfer and bridge player and enjoyed traveling, bowling and fishing. As a community leader, she volunteered for many years for the American Red Cross as well as numerous other charitable organizations.

Preceded in death by her husband of sixty-three years, Lester Cordes, Jr.; and son-in-law, Dwight Lohkamp; Mrs. Cordes is survived by her daughter, Sylvia Lohkamp, of Baytown, Texas; sons, Ronald Cordes and wife, Betty, of Rigby, Idaho, and Lester Cordes III and wife, Christal of Los Gatos, California; brother, George Anast and wife, Athey; grandchildren, Joanna Webber and husband, Dave, Keith Lohkamp and wife, Wendy, and Christina Funk and husband, Jamie. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, loyal sister and treasured friend.

Stephen was married to Betsy Rindall at the time that he died. He died from pneumonia. He had resided in Sverdrup Twp, Section 31, for 48 years. His brother Henry was the informant for his death certificate.

In the 1880 U.S. census, he is probably the “H. B. Steven”, a farmer in Dane Prairie Twp, Otter Tail County. H. B. Steven is 38. He and Betsy have a two daughters, Josefine, 3, and Magna, 2, and a son, Henry, 6 months. Also living with the family is Engebret Rindahl, 18, “brother-in-law.” Next door are Henry and Lina Bye.

By the time of the 1910 census, he is calling himself Stephen Bye. He and his family live in Sverdrup Twp. He came to the U.S. in 1864. His wife is called Bridta.

Stephen Bye, old and respected pioneer of Otter Tail county, died Thursday at his home on the shore of Bass Lake, one mile west of Underwood. Death was due to old age and complications. Mr. Bye has made his home on the Bass Lake farm for fully fifty years.

He is survived by his wife and six children. They are: Henry at home; Mrs. Anton Nelson and Mrs. H. P. Nelson of Aurdal; Miss Josephine Bye of Seattle; and Alfred and Stephen of Fargo, N. D.

Funeral services will be held at the home Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock and at the Aurdal church at 2 o'clock. Rev. Thoreson of Underwood officiating.

Steve Carlton, 57, of Okanogan, passed away on July 7, 2013, in Seattle, Wash. Steve was born November 5, 1955 in Omak Wash., one of four children to Darrell and Dorothy Carlton.

Steve was an accomplished businessman, the founder and owner of Valley Transmission in downtown Okanogan. Steve’s success in auto-mechanics was largely due to his extraordinary work ethic, endless fascination with how things work, and in his own words — his “good looks”. From a young age, Steve showed an interest and talent for fixing gadgets. He began doing mechanical work for Biles-Coleman following his graduation from Omak High School in 1974. When the mill shut down in 1982, he saw it as an opportunity to start his own business. He got a foothold working on his own at Don and Billie Delfield’s shop and moved into his own facility when his growing business demanded more space. His venture grew into Okanogan Valley’s most trusted auto-mechanic shop. Valley Transmission recently celebrated its 30 year anniversary.

Steve had a great love for the backcountry, and found that snowmobiling was a great way to explore nature during the winter months. He was an avid golfer, and frequented Okanogan Valley Golf Club on the weekend and evenings. Steve had a number of other interests, including relaxing at his cabin in Conconully, riding his motorcycle, watching football and spending time with friends and family.

Steve was an important fixture in the Carlton family. For many years, Steve would visit his parents’ house every day to share lunch and conversation (and to pick up laundry that his mother Dorothy had washed for him). Until her passing, Steve took long Sunday drives with his grandmother, Mabel Carlton, to enjoy the scenery of Okanogan County. He took an active role in the lives of his nieces and nephews, and being a real jokester, managed to convince most of them that WWF wrestling was real. Steve’s playful nature was something that was appreciated by his family, and most recently his great-nieces and nephews.

He is survived by father, Darrell Carlton; sister, Debbie Fenno; brothers, Greg (Sue) Carlton, and Brian (Janice) Carlton; nephews, Richard (Desi) Carlton, Dennis (Mallory) Carlton, Eric (Laurel) Carlton, and David Carlton; nieces, Sara (Dominic) Lindauer, Jennifer (Brad) Christie, Melissa Fenno, and Michelle Fenno; as well as 14 great- nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Sprowl Carlton; paternal grandparents, Walter and Mabel Carlton; and maternal grandparents, William and Ella Sprowl.

Steve loved animals, particularly his deceased dogs, Robo and Eek. To honor Steve, the family requests that donations be made to Keystone Animal Rescue in lieu of flowers.

Steve died in a motorcycle accident.

Steven (Steve) Emmanouel Passas, 46, was called to his Heavenly home on February 9, 2022.

Steve was born in Dearborn, MI on April 13, 1975, to Emmanouel and Noreen Passas. Michigan remained his home until he met and married the love of his life, Amy. Together they made their home in Middleton, NH. His family was made complete by the arrival of their daughter, Alexia.

Steve’s call to heaven seems far too early for those who love him; however, we know that Steve is more alive there than ever. Steve is celebrating in Heaven. Anyone who knows Steve can easily imagine what he will be doing as he waits for his family and friends to eventually join him. He will be playing his saxophone as he worships God with the angels, telling funny stories to everyone who will listen, having conversations with his Biblical heroes, painting pictures to hang on the walls of the Passas mansion, tending to his pet alpacas, and perhaps even asking God to broadcast all the Detroit Lions and New England Patriots games, knowing that even a Lions loss won’t bring disappointment in Heaven. But most importantly, he will be standing in awe at the foot of his beloved savior, Jesus. Those of us who are lucky enough to know him, know that Steve’s goals while on this earth were to make people feel accepted and loved, both by him and by Jesus. He succeeded in that abundantly.

Steve had many roles throughout the years, student at University of Michigan, student at University of New Hampshire, student at Northpoint Bible College, software engineer, worship leader, and associate pastor, but his favorites were husband, father, friend, and youth pastor. Steve’s physical presence with us will be greatly missed, but we can find peace knowing that while Steve is absent from us, he is present with the Lord. “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

A Celebration of Steve’s life will be held on Saturday, February 19, at 2:00PM at Restoration Church, 80 Rutland St, Dover, NH.
