Medlin, Harriet Leora Bush - Age 83 Of Burnsville, MN Passed away Monday morning, March 8th, 2004. Preceded in death by her parents Hilda & Rueben Bush. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Chuck; her sister Ione (Joe) Ellis of California; two children; her son Charles (Patricia); and daughter Patricia (Jeff) Jerde; her nephew Reuben (Linda) Ellis; four grandchildren, Kathryn (Keith) Russell and Ruth; daughters of Charles, and Peter and Thomas, sons of Patricia Jerde; and many other loving relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held at MARTIN LUTHER MANOR, 1401 E. 100th Street, Bloomington, MN, 2PM Saturday, March 13th.Harriet will always be remembered as a loving wife and mother. She had the very great pleasure of singing with the St. Olaf College Choir, taught music in Hendricks and Truman, MN, was a church organist at First Lutheran Church in Vista, CA, and greatly enjoyed playing the piano, pipe organ and cello. She became the first woman member of the St. Olaf College Board of Regents and was very proud of her service to the College and for their shared commitment to Education.

Rev. Dr. Lyle William Lieder, currently of Rochester, Minnesota, died on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, of old age. His wife of 78 years and their four children were by his side singing to him as he took his last breath. He was 100 years old.

Lyle was born on March 22, 1922, to Virginia and Harry Lieder on their farm near Millersburg, Minnesota, the oldest of three children. He attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, where he met his wife Betty. After their marriage on August 13, 1944, he attended Boston University School of Theology.

Lyle served (United) Methodist churches in Milford and Brookline, New Hampshire; and in Hornick, Odebolt, Boyer, Eagle Grove, Spencer, Mason City and Clear Lake, Iowa. He served as the Vice President of Morningside College in Sioux City for three years and was a District Superintendent to the Spencer District of the Iowa Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Lyle retired out of Clear Lake and moved to the Homestead at Rochester in 2007 where he and Betty lived until his death. He was well known as the “tickety boo” man.

Lyle was an incredibly vital man right up to the last few days of his life. His and Betty’s love story was inspiring to witness and his devotion to her was complete. He loved antique cars and other collectibles. He owned nearly 300 cars in his life and founded multiple antique car clubs. In his retirement, he wrote a book about his “Life Behind the Wheel” which he gave out with great delight. He was a master storyteller and had an incredible memory for people, dates and places. He was a wonderful conversationalist and very determined to live and die on his own terms.

Lyle is survived by his wife of 78 years, Betty Carol Leggett Lieder; David and Janet (Staley) Lieder of Stewartville, Minnesota; Rachel Lieder Simeon and Mark Haines Simeon of Harstine Island, Washington; Rebecca Lieder Smith and Deborah Lieder Kiesey, both of Iowa City, Iowa; 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren scattered across the country and abroad.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Virginia and Harry Lieder, sisters Lola Martin and Loyce Rhule, son Mark Abernathy Lieder, and sons-in-love Stephen K. Smith and D. Bradley Kiesey.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that any memorial donations be directed to Seasons Hospice in Rochester, Minnesota.

Nordis Austinson Johnson, age 86, beloved wife and mother, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her four children, on Wednesday, February 9, 2022. Nordis was born on December 5, 1935, in Chicago, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents Frieda Theresa (Siljan) and Myron Conrad Austinson; sister Marget Stiegler (Austinson); and husband, Waldo Stevens Johnson, Jr.

Throughout her life, Nordis balanced her many roles with selfless dedication and grace. She was a devoted wife of an ELCA Lutheran pastor, Waldo, who served multiple congregations, in Eau Claire, WI; Minneapolis, MN; Evanston, IL; Superior, WI; and Wausau, WI. Nordis was a steadfast partner in this ministry. Alongside her service within these churches, Nordis developed professional careers as a teacher and a real estate agent. She received her B.A. from St. Olaf College in 1958; an M.A. in Education from St. Thomas University in 1975; and the Graduate Realtor Institute (GRI) designation in MN and IL. She taught at Jefferson High School, Bloomington, MN, and as a college English professor at the University of Wisconsin in Superior, WI. She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, a philanthropic educational organization. Amidst all of this, Nordis raised four children, maintained beautiful homes, and hosted countless church and family gatherings.

Nordis is survived by her brother, John (Sue) Austinson; daughter, Sara Johnson Sullivan; three sons, Waldo Stevens Johnson III; Michael Johnson; and Mark Johnson; two grandchildren, Emily (Jacob) Larsen; Julia Johnson; three nieces, Kirsten (Rich Lay) Lysne; Marit (James Rosati) Lysne; Karen (Marshall) Lewis; and nephew Erik Lysne.
