In the 1928 Minneapolis city directory, he was a clerk for N T Flaten. He lived with his brother at 3936 25th Avenue S.

In the 1929 and 1930 city directories, he was a clerk for Janney, Semple, Hill & Co. He and his brother lived at 3936 25th Avenue S.

Probably the Iver Sondrol, roomer, living in Minneapolis in the 1930 census. He was 21 years old and working as a salesman for a hardware company. He had come to the U. S. in 1926. Living with him, also a roomer, was 20 year-old Knute Sondrol who had come to the U. S. in 1924. Knute was a shipping clerk for a mail order company. Together, the two young men lived at the house of the spinster sisters Mildred and Lillian Skattos at 3936 25th Avenue South.

In the 1934 Minneapolis city directory, Iver and Evelyn live at 639 E 17th, apartment 4. Iver is still a clerk with Janney Sample Hill.

In the 1939 and 1941 and 1942 Cedar Rapids, Iowa, city directories, Iver and Evelyn live at 2012 Bever Ave SE. Iver is a salesman.

In the 1950 and 1951 Cedar Rapids directories, Iver is a salesman. He and Evelyn live at 2056 Eastern Boulevard SE.

In the 1954 and 1956 and 1957 and 1958 Cedar Rapids directories, he and Evelyn still live at 2056 Eastern Boulevard SE. He owns Sondrol’s Variety and Hardware at 1507 1st Avenue E.



His obit:

Iver O. Sondrol, 94, of 322 Liberty Drive SE, Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.

Services are 3 p.m. today at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, is handling the arrangements.

Mr. Sondrol was born July 4, 1908, in Vang, Valdres, Norway, the son of Ole and Gertrude Sondrol. He married Evelyn June 30, 1934, in Minneapolis.

He attended high school in Norway and at age 17 immigrated to the United States, arriving at Milaca, Minn., in March 1926. As a young man he worked on farms and in small businesses in Minnesota before moving to Minneapolis in 1927, where he met his wife. In 1933, he returned to Norway to visit his brothers and sisters, his mother and his ailing father.

In working to attain U.S. citizenship, he took night classes at the University of Minnesota. He began his career working for Janney-Semple-Hill, a hardware wholesale business, and continued that career as a hardware salesman on the road until 1952.

For 22 years, he and his wife owned and operated Sondrol's Variety & Hardware, Cedar Rapids. During that time, he was active in his church, community and in organizations such as the Sons of Norway.

Survivors include his wife; his children, Trudy Wasson of Eden Prairie, Minn., Hal Sondrol of Cedar Rapids and Iver Sondrol Jr. of Muscatine; six grandchildren, one of whom preceded him in death; and four great-grandchildren.

In the 1875 Minnesota state census, he was Louis Tostensen, son of Tosten (age 52) and Ellen (age 53) Tostensen. Louis, 14, and his brother Andrew, 11, lived with their parents in New Market Twp.

In the 1880 census, he is the 19 year-old Louis Thomson, son of Ellen Thomson. He and his mother and his 16 year-old brother Andrew (born in Minnesota) lived in New Market Twp.

In the 1900 census, as Louis Thomson, he and “Esabelle” and their five living children lived in New Market Twp. According to that census, he came to the U.S. in 1861.

In the 1910 census, he and Ingeborg and five of their children lived in New Market Twp.

According to the 1914 plat book, his farm was the eastern neighbor of the Ole Ellingboe farm.

He died of a cerebral hemorrhage. His wife Isabell was the informant.

Sandra A. Soine Olson, age 84, of Nerstrand, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, at her home.

Sandra Ann Olson was born in the Sogn Valley on May 7, 1937, the daughter of Thomas and Ruth (Otterness) Soine. She grew up there and graduated from Cannon Falls High School. She graduated from Nursing School at St. Lucas in Faribault as an R.N. Sandra earned a BA from Barat College in Lake Forest, IL. She took graduate classes from Mankato State University and the University of Minnesota, obtaining a master’s degree in Health Care Administration.

Sandra worked with people with disabilities.  She was instrumental in the development of Riverview manor, the first residential group home in Wanamingo.  She also worked for many years with both the Developmental Activity Center in Red Wing and the Faribault Regional Center. She later worked in the fields of staff development and administration.

On March 18, 1961, Sandra was married to Richard Olson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Faribault.

She was a member of Vang Lutheran Church in Dennison, the Minnesota Nurses Association, the Goodhue County Historical Society and The Minnesota State Historical Society. In her younger years Sandra was a supporter 4H and the FFA. She served on the Vang Lutheran Cemetery Board. Her hobbies included her dogs, gardening, barn preservation, and spending time outdoors. She most especially loved the time spent with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband Richard, children David (Lisa) Olson, Heather (Brian) Holley, Barbra (Tim) Olson, and Catherine (Brad) Luebke; grandchildren Blake and Zachary Olson and Madi and Cal Luebke; sisters Sheila (Arlen) Olson and Sherree (Larry) VanDeWalker; brother Terry (Sandy) Soine; many nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog Scottie. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Goodhue County Historical Society, Vang Lutheran Church or nursing scholarships at St. Olaf College Nursing Department.

Preceded in death by husband Donald Dockter, children Donna and Bill, granddaughter Robin.

She leaves behind daughter Ginger (Glenn), son Rick (Lyn) and daughter-in-law Janet. Seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren. Stepchildren, Don, Steve, Wendy their spouses and children.

Memorial is at Boulevard Park Church, 1822 South 128th St., Burien, WA on Monday Dec. 14th at 1:30 p.m. Remembrances to The Blind or Boulevard Park Church if desired.
