The Barber Collection of New York newspaper extracts includes a marriage announcement from the New York Evening Post for the marriage of Nathaniel Lightbourn, “late of Bermuda” and Mary A Vose, daughter of James “of this city.” The announcement was in the March 16, 1808, edition for an event that occurred “last eve.” So, presumably the marriage occurred on March 15, 1808.

In a list of British Aliens in the United States during the War of 1812, there is an entry for Nathaniel Lightbourn, age 26. He was a merchant, lived at 237 Duane Street in New York City, had been in the U.S. for 6 years, and had a wife and child. His presence in the U.S. was recorded in July of 1812.

Above the entry for Nathaniel was an entry for the 59 year-old William Lightborn, a “gentleman.” William had also been in the U.S. for 6 years, had 11 people in his family, and lived at 27 Hudson Street in New York City.

Another entry recorded in the “British Aliens in the United States During the War of 1812”:

Early in August, 1812, a number of persons sought passports to depart from New York for the West Indies in two cartels, the sloop Sally, of 92 tons, for Bermuda, and the brig Isabella, of 135 tons for Bermuda, Antigua and St. Croix. The following are passengers and crew of the Sally:

The New York Passenger Lists include a Nathaniel T Lightbourn, age 20, physician, citizen of Bermuda, arriving in New York on 4 Sep 1837 as a passenger aboard the brig Somerset.

In Lightbourn research conducted by Paul Hake are these two entries:

1841, October 5: Nathaniel Trimingham Lightbourn, M.D., only son of Nathaniel Lightbourn, age about 25, a native of Bermuda, drowned at Turks Islands on May 24 (1841), between Salt and Grand Cays, on a professional trip in a decked boat, along with three boys, when a sudden storm came up and the boat capsized and sank. No traces of them has been seen since. The deceased had been married just 15 days earlier.

1841, October 5: Nathaniel Lightbourn, aged 55, father of the above, a native of Bermuda, died suddenly at Salt Key, Turks Islands, about Aug. 20 (1841) from grief at the death of his only son, leaving 2 daughters.

Obituary of Beverly Bergam

Beverly Rhea Bergam, 83, Ontario, went to be with the Lord on May 2, 2022 surrounded by her family.

She was born in Bethel, Minnesota. She would often recall her first memories of childhood performing on the stage of her grandparents’ large rustic hotel and diner. She would tell how the patrons would toss coins onto the stage and how it frightened her. She would gather the coins up and hurriedly retreat to the kitchen and deposit the coins through a hole that was in the wall.

She would then tell of traveling to Oregon on a train with her mother Helen to live with relatives living there.

While in Corvallis her mother met a handsome young man from Tennessee who would soon become the Corvallis chief of police and Mom's stepfather. Beverly attended schools in Corvallis, eventually graduating from its high chool in 1956. Sometime after graduating Mom met Ramon Bergam from Nyssa, Oregon, who was at that time a student at OSU. Their romance blossomed and by 1958 they were married.

The newlyweds moved back to Nyssa where they would soon welcome their first son, Brian, into the world. They eventually moved to Mountain Home where Ramon worked for McCaslin Lumber Company. While in Mountain Home they welcomed their second son, Greg.

Ramon took a job with the Oregon State Police and moved his growing family to Ontario, Oregon. Beverly settled comfortably into being a doting mother and soon would welcome their third son, Mark. Ramon and Beverly raised their boys in a loving household in Ontario, cheering them on and sometimes coaching them through the many sports and activities that they participated in.

As the boys grew older, Beverly took on the job of being an Avon Lady, a job that she found great satisfaction in and through which she made many lifelong friends. Ramon worked for the OSP many years despite having to deal with MS and the recurring setbacks that illness would sometimes present. After 24 years with OSP, Ramon retired and Beverly took on a whole new roll as caregiver. Ramon passed away in 2002 after a long battle with MS. Beverly provided love and care to the very end.

During those years and the years to follow, while always having a sunny and cheerful attitude, Beverly was dealing with many different health issues that would eventually take their toll on her. During her life she enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, cooking and painting, the last two of which she did exceptionally well. She enjoyed every minute that she could spend with her growing family, especially her grandchildren. She always told us that every person that she considered a friend, was a friend to the end.

Beverly was proceeded in death by her husband of 44 years, Ramon Bergam, her parents Jim and Helen Goodman, a sister Carol Anne and infant brother Jim. Also preceding Beverly in death were Ramon’s parents, Herbert and Alice Bergam, Beverly’s brothers-in-Law Don and Lurelle Bergam, her daughter-in-law Suzanne Bergam, her daughter-in-law Grace Bergam, her infant granddaughter Brittany Bergam, and her grandson Brian Crabb.

Beverly leaves behind the loving family members of Brian Ray Bergam (Julia), Gregory Duane Bergam (Debbie), Mark Donald Bergam (Laurie), grandchildren Nigel, Brooke, Bryce (Nicole), Sheena, Kylie (Bob), Arielle, and great-grandchildren Reid, Haven, Aiden, Kayla, Jacob, Natalie, Paisley and Stetson.

Han var først gift til Robøle med enken der. Derfor kalles han også Robøle i feler dokumenter.

Han var enkemann da han giftet seg med den 9 år yngre Ågot Lome. Gjennom det ekteskapet fikk han både Lome og Kvåle 40/8 VS. Han fikk skjøte på Lome av Gudbrand Jøgerson den 10. mars 1788. (Tore Ey). De var noe krangel om dette kjøpte, men da Eivind ble enkemann og giftet seg med Ågot, fikk han beholde gården.

Ågot og Eivind hadde også sønnen Andris som fikk Kvåle 40/8 VS i 1809, han var gift og hadde bl.a. sønnen Eivind Andersen Kvåle som fikk gården i 1844, Hans sønn igjen, Gudbrand Eivindson Kvåle overtok i 1889. I 1932 kjøpte Knut Knutsen Høyne som hadde brukt Lome 32/1 gården Kvåle 40/8 VS.

Knut var gjennom sin andre kone, Guri Torgeirsen Kvåle (1900-1934) i slekt med Gudbrand Eivindson, dermed er Kvåle 40/8 VS fortsatt i samme Kvåle/Lome ætt. Ågot og Eivind hadde også døtrene Marit (1786- ) gm Kristoffer Olsen Kvål i Høre Ingeborg (1790- ) gm Anders Engebretsen Trøsvik grb 14/1 og Marit d.y. (1793-1844) gm Ole Alvsen Lome grb 33/2.

The Bergen departure records show her (as Ida Eriksdtr Øren) leaving for the U.S. on October 29, 1907.

In the 1910 census she was a 21 year-old servant living and working at Torger Fortney’s hotel on Main Street in Viroqua.

In the 1920 census, Adolph and Ida and family were tobacco farmers in Kickapoo Twp, Vernon County. They lived next door to Sam and Inga Nundahl and not far from Abraham and Annie Nelson.

In the 1930 census, Ida was a widow running her farm and family in Kickapoo Twp. Living on the farm is Carl E. Sime, 46, cousin.

She was Mrs. Ida Anderson, living in Viroqua, at the time of her sister Bertha’s death.

The Bergen departure records show her (Britha Eriksdtr Øren) as leaving for the U.S. on November 2, 1908. Her reason for leaving was to better her living condition. She was to meet family in Madison, Wisconsin.

Bertha Øren Ekum's youngest sister and her granddaughter were scheduled to visit Ernest and Dorothy from Norway in the summer of 1983. Bertha's youngest sister is only one year older than Ernest, had already been over to the U.S. twice (as of March, 1983), and couldn't speak English.

The 1910 census shows Bertha as an 18 year old housemaid servant girl employed by Clause Bowe. She arrived in this country in 1909 and wasn’t yet able to speak English.

Cora’s address list shows an address for Bertha Ekum at or around 1957 as 419 South Washington in Viroqua.

Bertha’s only sibling in the U.S., at least living at the time of Bertha’s death, was, apparently, her sister Ida (“Mrs. Ida Anderson”). According to Bertha’s obit, she had 2 brothers and four sisters still living in Norway.
