Probably also was the Carrie Allness, school teacher, living in Howard Township, Story County, IA, at the time of the 1920 census. That Carrie was shown as 23 years old, however.

The 1925 Iowa census shows her as a college graduate.

Listed in Ole’s obit as Mrs. Juel Sandsvold of Roland, Iowa. Included in the list of graduates of VHS as Mrs. Jeul Sandvald of Roland, IA.

In the SSDI, her last residence is Roland, Story, Iowa.

Lutheran pastor, ordained in June, 1923 (see below).

In the 1930 census, he was a pastor in Eau Claire. His children were Elaine J, 8, and Elmer S. Jr., 6.

He was a pastor in Milwaukee at the time of the 1940 census. The children at home at that time weree Elaine (absent) 17, Elmer Jr., 16, and John G., 2.

At the time of his daughter Elaine’s engagement to Feroe, he was “senior pastor-elect” of Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis.

The September, 1948, alumni magazine notes: “Another 25th anniversary was that of Dr. Elmer Hjortland's ordination to the ministry. On Sunday, June 20, members of Central Lutheran church in Minneapolis honored Mr. and Mrs. Hjortland (Mildred Ellingboe, '23) at a reception. The Hjortlands have spent the three summer months touring the European countries.”

According to the November, 1959, alumni magazine: “Elmer I. {sic} Hjortland, pastor of United Church, Oak Park, Illinois, is one of two new members who have been elected to the board of directors of Lutheran World Relief for a two-year term. Pastor Hjortland is the former pastor of Central Lutheran church in Minneapolis. His wife is the former Mildred Ellingboe, '23.”

The family lived in Moravia Twp, Appanoose County, Iowa, at the time of the 1925 Iowa state census. That census indicates that Louella had attended four years of college.

Her Social Security number was issued in Colorado.

He is probably the Oscar L. “Sundahl”, public school superintendent, age 31 (?) living in Walkon Village, Isle Harbor Twp, Mille Lacs County, Minnesota, in the 1930 census. The information shown here assumes that. That Oscar’s father was born in Norway and his mother in Minnesota. This Oscar was also a veteran of the World War.

His death certificate gives his occupation as a supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service. He and Lillian, who was the informant for Oscar’s death certificate, lived at 6101 Emerson Ave., N. in Brooklyn Center. Oscar died of pancreatic cancer. He was a veteran.
